Harry Shearer, the talented voice actor behind Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, and a number of other iconic Simpsons characters (Otto! Dr Hibbert! Rainier Wolfcastle!), will remain with the show for at least the next two years, Fox announced today (via THR).
That’s despite Shearer’s proclamation in May that he would be leaving the show, which led to widespread Simpsons fan panic at the idea of someone trying to replace him. Fortunately, there’s nothing to worry about — except for maybe the fact that The Simpsons will never, ever end.

If only there was a brief catchphrase from a character he voices that sums up this situation. Oh well.
Excellent…
UP AND AT THEM
UP UND ATOM!
One thing is for certain. There is no stopping them; the ants will soon be here

have not fears we’ve got stories for years. how a crazy wedding where something happens and doo diddy doo do
What’s sad is that line was an obvious joke of how stupid their writing staff can get, then a couple of years later actually do it.
Did somebody say long lost triplets?
He’s getting $300,000 per episode. For that kind of money I’d be staying as long as they let me.
It’s not like Shearer is the one ordering new seasons or controlling scripts or anything. He’s just along for the ride, might as well get paid for it =)
Wasnt this supposed to finish some time ago? Thinking on it, its probably been 10 or more years since Ive even seen any simpsons.
Am I the only one a little.. upset, by this news?
Don’t get me wrong, I like the Simpsons, but I think we can all agree it’s not the same Simpsons that we used to know and love. It started going down hill quite some time ago…
I thought that this marked the end of the Simpsons, which I was actually happy about, because that would have enabled the creative team to pursue new ideas, and potentially new shows, rather than churn out, quite frankly, sub-par episodes of a once beloved show purely because it is a cash-cow franchise.
I was looking forward to seeing the end of an era, and seeing where they would go next.
Oh well, the end is inevitable. This is just a slight delay.
At this point I’m convinced that Fox just wants to end the series at season 30 for bragging rights.
Similar to what @neo_kaiser suggests this news makes me think that they wooed him back with the idea of resolution.
It didn’t sound like he gave a shit about the money but if they just asked him to stay to a foreseeable end and see off these characters he breathed life into?
Simpsons be ending.
Maybe, or else stories for years.
The Simpsons has sucked for most of it’s running time. So who cares
If it sucks so bad how’d they managed to get 25+ years out of it? Moron.
Because morons will watch anything.
