Iconic voice actor Akio Otsuka might have shed some light on the murky Metal Gear Solid situation. According to him, Kojima Productions is no more.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this. Rumours havebeen swirling for months, and the Kojima Productions logo seemed to vanish from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain‘s box art and previous game trailers.
This weekend, Livedoor News is reporting that Otsuka tweeted out that Kojima Productions had been “dissolved. Note: the word the famed voice actor used was “kaisan” (解散), which also means “break-up” like when bands break up.
Konami still hasn’t confirmed whether or not Kojima Productions has been broken up.
“Kojima Productions got dissolved,” Otsuka wrote, “and due to the team’s hard effort, the game is just about finished. This is no exaggeration, but it’s bound to be a supreme masterpiece! I can’t help it if I want to say, ‘I kept you waiting.’ (lol) Even if this is the last time… MGS lives forever!”
Otsuka is right: Metal Gear Solid will live on forever through the game’s wonderful back catalogue. Oh, and Konami says it will continue to make new Metal Gear games — for whatever that’s worth.

Konami: truly the Japanese EA.
I’m just glad this game was very publicly tied to Kojima for as long as it was. I’m getting the impression, especially after Ground Zeroes, that MSGV is what it will take for the series to become sustainable without Kojima at the helm or previous games proping it up. Ultimately I think it’ll be a better game, but it’s not going to feel entirely like MGS1-4 so if Kojima wasn’t involved it would be very easy to critise it for not being a true MGS main series game.
I hope the games die with departure of Kojima. I love the shit out of Metal Gear games however I don’t like the way Konami is headed and they seem to have no idea of what the market wants. I don’t want to see some watered down shitty Metal Gear games and I’m certain nor do the fans.
Let them die with this. The time line is more or less complete.
What of the Fox Engine though?
I’m also a huge metal gear fan, have been since I played mgs on my old grey psx.
I very much doubt I will play anymore mgs games after mgs V. It just feels weird to not have kojima in control of the games anymore. I also agree the time line has ran its course. Let it end on a high.
I’m glad metal gear is gone, it’s never been the same without David Hayter.
Complain all you want, he is Snake.
