Can you hear that? Listen closely….it’s the ghost of a very cool 90s arcade game…
Via RPS, Tokyo Warfare is an indie shooter for the PC that takes some very heavy cues from Namco’s classic Tokyo Wars, an arcade game from the mid-90’s that I remember spending way too much money on.
The similarities are clear: you control big, (relatively) realistic tanks in a multiplayer battle, as you drive through the streets of Tokyo shooting at other tanks. About the only major difference is the more anime styling around the fringes of Tokyo Warfare.
The game is still in development, but you can try out a playable demo here.

Used to love that game at Timezone, one of my favorites as a kid 🙂
Always had those cool camera angles of tank columns during the insert coin demos.
Man those were the days. Now most remaining arcades revolve around tickets and most of the machines are worn to crap 🙁
Oh yes, I used to love that game so much.
Everytime they had open games sessions I would play that at least once.
Yeah I see your tank arcade game, and Imma let you finish, but Virtual On was the best arcade set-up OF ALL TIME. https://blueskiesdaily.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/img_04481.jpg
Maybe not of all time, but it was still pretty good.
If you don’t sit in a big chair that recoils when you fire your main gun, it ain’t Tokyo Wars.
