Warcraft 3 was one of the greatest real-time strategy games of all time — and Blizzard might be about to revisit the series.
Fans have been crying for Blizzard to take Warcraft back to its RTS roots for years, especially given how top-notch Warcraft 3 was. The way it was structured meant I always preferred StarCraft for my multiplayer fix, but it’s hard to find a RTS campaign to match WC3 (and The Frozen Throne) in scope, story and scripting.
Blizzard are busy tying up threads with Legacy of the Void, the upcoming expansion for StarCraft 2, but producer Tim Morten has told IGN that the possibility of another RTS Warcraft game will be discussed once LotV is finished.
“It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next,” Morten said.
The Warcraft 3 story is so good that the campaign holds up, even today. But would you want a Warcraft 4 from Blizzard — or would you prefer a follow-up to StarCraft 2 with different characters and different stories?

Warcraft 4, as I am a StarCraft fan but have never played a Warcraft game.
Definitely go check out Warcraft 3 and its expansion The Frozen Throne then.

If you are a Starcraft player you might be pretty disappointed with Warcraft 3. I hated it. Heroes and a creep rush levelling system in multiplayer? No thanks. I really disagree with the first sentence of this article that W3 was “one of the greatest real-time strategy games of all time”. No, it wasn’t. Not to me and not to many others either. Fair enough if you like that kind of thing but it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
Did you not like the campaigns?
I’m primarily multiplayer focused when it comes to RTS games so I’m indifferent about campaigns.

played 1, 2 & 3 and love them all
I gave up all hope on Warcraft 4
However I also gave up hope on Shenmue 3 and this year was magical
I’d crowd fund those rich Blizzard folk for warcraft 4

i’ve been wanting a warcraft 4 for a very long time – and i was also eagerly awaiting and following diablo 3’s development for years. what diablo 3 ended up being was nothing more than disappointment.
custom games in wc3 was a huge part of it for me – and for a lot of people obviously. the poor implementation of custom games in sc2 was a big let down, and im afraid itd be a similar implementation for wc4 if it were to be made.
furthermore with how far WoW has progressed the story, seems like it’s a bit up in the air as to what theyd do with the story

Yeah. Blizzard’s dead to me for a while now. Every game they’ve come out with or are working on is uninspired polishing of whatever’s making mad monies or ‘trending right now’. PVP match-based garbage. Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch… TCG, team-based FPS, MOBA… It’s a very different Blizzard from the one which made Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo.
Yeah, they’re just another money machine now. You would think that, thanks to WoW they would already have enough, but not really.
Also micro-transactions. Don’t forget about micro-transactions.
Would be happy with WC3 redone in starcrafts engine.
im thinking if anything it would be warcraft 1 and 2 being redone inorder to update/retcon/break/fix the lore
The custom SC1 campaign in SC2 is pretty good. I’d be OK with that – maybe as a standalone re-release or something even.
I’d play the heck outta WC4!
Bonus though would be a refresh of WC1-3 so I could play the entire narrative from 1-4 on current PC kit
This is exciting 🙂 Love Blizzard if they did this. though you guys should check this out some of the amazing mods in the starcraft arcade that let you turn the game into a warcraft RTS 🙂 using updated models
