It’s been a fairly dry spell my friends, punctuated by weird games on Steam and Rocket League. But things are about to change. The levee has broken, the drought is (kinda) over. We have video games.
This week is mostly a mish-mash of goosed up re-releases, cool Steam games and Until Dawn. But still, when you consider the last couple of months. This is good.
Calvino Noir (PC)
What is it? A 2D stealth game with noir elements.
Should you care? Looks nice. I like the aesthetics. Worth taking a look at.
Coated (PC)
What is it? A puzzle game about Aliens changing colours to solve puzzles.
Should you care? Well, I like puzzle games. This intrigues me. Your mileage may vary.
Crookz – The Big Heist (PC)
What is it? A tactical strategy game about planning heists. This sounds cool…
Should you care? But it has the worst name ever. Don’t let that distract you. This seems super interesting and polished.
Dead In Bermuda (PC)
What is it? A survival management game. With RPG elements and what not.
Should you care? This seems interesting to me, kinda like Lost with management elements.
Dishonored Definitive Edition (Xbox One/PS4)
What is it? Oh wow, this is coming out this week. Updated version of Dishonored with better visuals, all DLC, etc. You know the drill.
Should you care? I think so. Dishonored was a terrific video game.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Xbox One)
What is it? It’s a new, fully HD, prettied up version of Gears of War.
Should you care? Yeah, why not. It’s a legitimate classic.
Kult: Heretic Kingdoms (PC)
What is it? One of those isometric RPG things that people seem to love.
Should you care? This is apparently pretty damn good.
Madden NFL 16 (Xbox One/PS4)
What is it? It’s Madden. You know what it is.
Should you care? If you care you already care. Know what I mean!
Mega Man Legacy Collection (PC)
What is it? A collection of the first six Mega Mann games.
Should you care? Yes. Especially if you’re a fan of the series. Especially if you’re looking for an entry point into the series.
Nova-111 (PC)
What is it? A “quirky turn-based adventure”. Not sure what that means, but Nova-111 seems interesting.
Should you care? Definitely investigate if the above description rattles your bones.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 (PS4/PS3/PS Vita)
What is it? It’s another game based on an (admittedly super popular) anime license.
Should you care? I like One Piece, but even I’ll probably be passing on this one.
Planet of the Eyes (PC)
What is it? Sort of like a 2D exploration game ala Metroid, Nodes of Yesod. Looks really great.
Should you care? This is really one to watch for this week. It’s been critically lauded. I’m keen for this.
Satellite Reign
What is it? It’s the Australian-made game for people who loved the original Syndicate.
Should you care? Yeah you should. It’s great.
Sound Shift (PC)
What is it? A VJ visualiser thing that is also a shooter. I LOVE THESE THINGS.
Should you care? Yeah, games that link music, rhythm and visuals are my jam. Super interested.
Until Dawn (PS4)
What is it? It’s a story-driven PS4 game that’s like a cross between Heavy Rain and um… a bad episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Should you care? This is an interesting video game. It’s good-bad. In that it sort of celebrates those terrible things we somehow still love — like slasher movies and horrible teen dramas.
Did we miss anything? Picking anything up this week? Let us know in the comments below…

Gears of War 1 is considered a classic now?
It is it’s like saying uncharted not a classic both huge stepping stones for early last gen
I’d say yeah, I mean they practically reinvented the wheel for cover based shooters didn’t they.
:O How you could say its NOT a classic? The game was amazing
Gears 2 and 3 are way better.
Yeah, but they’re building on the template laid down by the first game. Similar to the Uncharted games, as mentioned by @wintersoldier above.
True but they’re unlikely to have existed without Gears 1, you have to admit that…
The story and gameplay of Gears 1 changed 3rd person shooters. 2 and 3 were better in terms of prettiness and MP, but story wise you had expectation with 2 and 3 – Gears 1 you were going in cold to new IP and it rocked. Gears 3 was full on (though I think the most full on moment was Tai is Gears 2), but 1 introduced so many things you had not seen before.
Won’t deny that 🙂 but they would not be around if not for the first one. Its not a classic because its the best game, but because it laid the groundwork for the others to be as awesome as they are 🙂
…ly boring >_>
It’s not really up for debate. It changed the industry and was legit amazing.
You forgot onechanbara and devils third
Imported Onechanbara Banana Split edition and was not disappointed.
I just don’t know if the world needs a new definitive version of dishonoured… Yeah was a cool game, but don’t think it needs to be re-released particularly with a 2 on the way.
2 on the way is very probably the reason it’s being re-released, I suspect it’d be easier to get people interested in a sequel to something when they’ve played the first one
Devil’s Third drops on Saturday, and I’m actually pretty keen for it!
The movement system, melee, and insanity intrigues me.
also this week on PS4 I believe we’ll be seeing…
Back to Bed – (PS4, PS3, Vita – Digital)
Calvino Noir – (PS4 – Digital)
Capsule Force – (PS4 – Digital) <– this looks like fun crazy local MP action
I Am Bread – (PS4 – Digital)
Shutshimi – (PS4, Vita – Digital Cross Buy)
Steins;Gate – (PS3, Vita – Digital)
Tina’s Toy Factory – (PS4 – Digital)
VVVVVV – (PS4, Vita – Digital)
Mega Man Collection and Nova-111 as you’ve mentioned for PC are also coming to PS4
All of the above is from the US PSN Blog, so we may not see all of those on the AUS store but we won’t know until later in the week.
🙂
Steins;Gate has actually been out in the EU territories for a while now. Hopefully Shutshimi is out this week. The EU blog never gave a date so I didn’t think it was coming out yet.
Also out this week:
Capsule Force (PS4/PC)
Curses ‘n’ Chaos (PS4/Vita) should be coming to EU territories this week.
I am Bread (PS4)
Mega Man Legacy Collection (PS4/XBone) should also be this week
Calvino Noir is also on PS4 this week
Helldivers has its latest ultimate edition out this week
Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson (3DS) is out for those that like a lot of “plot”
Lost Dimension should be released digitally this week (Physical is in a couple of weeks)
Satellite Reign leaves Early Access at the end of the week.
Ant the perennial favourite, Konami may release Suikoden III to AU/NZ this week. Depends on if your classification team have actually classified it yet…
I thought that Senran Kagura 2 must have really sneaked up on me. Didn’t realize how close it was to release. Then I realized that’s the EU date and I’d been looking at the US one. Why are we getting it 3 weeks early? That never happens!
I still can’t believe that there’s a chance we could finally see Suikoden III. Only been waiting for it for thirteen years. :\
Not a new game so much but definitely worth mentioning is the Pillars of Eternity expansion out on the 25th.
Was planning to get Gears of War, but considering I’m moving house very soon I’m gonna have to be picky about what games I get and how long they’re going to last for me. I’m gonna wait until Forza 6 comes out, and maybe grab Super Mario Maker not long afterwards.
Gears comes with digital codes for all four original gears games*
*Through backwards compatibility, code to be issued in November, must be played before November.
My brain hurts.
Nah homes…
Backwards compatibility launches in November.
If you play the new Gears before then (provided you’re logged in to xbox live), they’ll give you a code for Gears 1, 2, 3, & 4 when backwards compatibility comes on line.
Like they did for ODST in the Halo MCC.
Okay. I read it wrong and it sounded like you got the code in November, but you had to activate it before November. Shut up, I’m tired.
Anyway, huh. Did not know that. I’ve only played Gears 2, so that’s a bit more of an incentive to get it now.
Dam, didn’t know about dishonoured…. have heard nothing but good things about that game, so am really keen to give it a shot 🙂
There’s one really, really bad thing about Dishonoured; it ends!
I never got the chance to play the original, so this will be a brand new game for me. Am actually really amped as I’ve not really heard anyone say a bad thing about it 🙂
I’m not sure if it’s late this week or early next week but Stasis is coming out too. It’s a sci-fi horror point & click adventure, like the bastard lovechild of Event Horizon & Sanitarium
Gears of War drops Tuesday, Until Dawn Wednesday. The floodgates have officially opened, that’s for sure. The next three months are going to be epic for fans of almost every genre and console.
I’m not a Madden player, but the trailers for this years and last years games have been amazing.
This years:
Last years:
I think their marketing has hit a point where they know the audience will buy it anyway… so now they’re just trying to have fun.
All in for Until Dawn 🙂
Satellite Reign, while in my steam wishlist (because waiting for sales to save 75%) is still in Early Access at the moment.
