This Week In Games: The Floodgates Are Opening, We Have Video Games

It’s been a fairly dry spell my friends, punctuated by weird games on Steam and Rocket League. But things are about to change. The levee has broken, the drought is (kinda) over. We have video games.

This week is mostly a mish-mash of goosed up re-releases, cool Steam games and Until Dawn. But still, when you consider the last couple of months. This is good.

Calvino Noir (PC)

What is it? A 2D stealth game with noir elements.
Should you care? Looks nice. I like the aesthetics. Worth taking a look at.

Coated (PC)

What is it? A puzzle game about Aliens changing colours to solve puzzles.
Should you care? Well, I like puzzle games. This intrigues me. Your mileage may vary.

Crookz – The Big Heist (PC)

What is it? A tactical strategy game about planning heists. This sounds cool…
Should you care? But it has the worst name ever. Don’t let that distract you. This seems super interesting and polished.

Dead In Bermuda (PC)

What is it? A survival management game. With RPG elements and what not.
Should you care? This seems interesting to me, kinda like Lost with management elements.

Dishonored Definitive Edition (Xbox One/PS4)

What is it? Oh wow, this is coming out this week. Updated version of Dishonored with better visuals, all DLC, etc. You know the drill.
Should you care? I think so. Dishonored was a terrific video game.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Xbox One)

What is it? It’s a new, fully HD, prettied up version of Gears of War.
Should you care? Yeah, why not. It’s a legitimate classic.

Kult: Heretic Kingdoms (PC)

What is it? One of those isometric RPG things that people seem to love.
Should you care? This is apparently pretty damn good.

Madden NFL 16 (Xbox One/PS4)

What is it? It’s Madden. You know what it is.
Should you care? If you care you already care. Know what I mean!

Mega Man Legacy Collection (PC)

What is it? A collection of the first six Mega Mann games.
Should you care? Yes. Especially if you’re a fan of the series. Especially if you’re looking for an entry point into the series.

Nova-111 (PC)

What is it? A “quirky turn-based adventure”. Not sure what that means, but Nova-111 seems interesting.
Should you care? Definitely investigate if the above description rattles your bones.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 (PS4/PS3/PS Vita)

What is it? It’s another game based on an (admittedly super popular) anime license.
Should you care? I like One Piece, but even I’ll probably be passing on this one.

Planet of the Eyes (PC)

What is it? Sort of like a 2D exploration game ala Metroid, Nodes of Yesod. Looks really great.
Should you care? This is really one to watch for this week. It’s been critically lauded. I’m keen for this.

Satellite Reign

What is it? It’s the Australian-made game for people who loved the original Syndicate.
Should you care? Yeah you should. It’s great.

Sound Shift (PC)

What is it? A VJ visualiser thing that is also a shooter. I LOVE THESE THINGS.
Should you care? Yeah, games that link music, rhythm and visuals are my jam. Super interested.

Until Dawn (PS4)

What is it? It’s a story-driven PS4 game that’s like a cross between Heavy Rain and um… a bad episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Should you care? This is an interesting video game. It’s good-bad. In that it sort of celebrates those terrible things we somehow still love — like slasher movies and horrible teen dramas.
