At the Tokyo Game Show today, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata answered a whole bunch of questions about the game. We learned new things! Such as…
- They will not include Japanese and English language voice tracks on the disc, because apparently, they can’t fit both on the physical game. But according to Hajime Tabata, he’s thinking of offering the extra language tracks via download.
- When it rains, the sunroof for Noctis’ car automatically closes.
- Square Enix is considering offering Gilgamesh as DLC.
- There are no Moogles in the game, because they wouldn’t fit in with the game’s atmosphere.
- Chocobos can be rented for ten to thirty days. You will need gil to rent them. While you’ve rented them, you can call them at any time, and they will appear.
- Right now, the team is focusing on developing FFXV, incorporating feedback from the Episode Duscae demo, which is why there isn’t a new playable version yet for the public.
- There are quest-like mini-games called “activities.” This include Chocobo races.
- You can’t combo with guns, but you can rapid fire with them.
- Square Enix is consiering costume changes for the characters. This might be limited due to the contract with the fashion designer who created the characters’ outfits.
- Fishing will have various rod and lure types.
- Square Enix is aming for a Teen-rating for the game.
- You can pre-set your four weapons and then change them in real time during battle.
- There will be a game mechanic that is similiar to Limit Breaks, but it will be called something else.
- You cannot breed or raise Chocobos.
- Chocobo’s dash and jump ablities improve by feeding them while camping.
- You cannot enter every single building in the game.
- FFXV has one new magic spell.
- There is a photo mode.
- It’s possible to level up your cooking skills.
- Tabata said they do want airships, but if Square Enix cannot offer a new experience, players won’t be able to get airships.
- However, Square Enix is currently developing a side-quest with airships. If it doesn’t meet the team’s standards, it will be cut from the game.

Whats the point in raising a chocobos abilities if its just rented. I want to breed my own damn it.
Also fuck them for even considering bs dlc like additional summons
They just mentioned that if Gilgamesh were included he wouldn’t be in the main game, so it’s not a case of something they could’ve put on the disc. The other DLC they mentioned are free.

That was my knee-jerk reaction, but then I remember how Gilgamesh was or retailer DLC in FFXIII-2 and how he was never a full part of the game, just an optional boss fight in the arena
They’ve said you’ll be able to track Chocobos that you feed to improve status/abilities, so you’ll pretty much be able to have a personal one. I suspect they make you rent them because they don’t want you to be able to use the Chocobo all the time. Like if you run out of gas or the car has broken down for instance, if you can just jump on a Chocobo at any time that’s not an issue, like it’s meant to be.
Err, this far into development I would like to hope they have worked that out already. Obviously this isn’t a core component of the game.
I think having an airship might take away from the discovery and exploration of what is shaping up to be a rather beautiful world they are creating. If you are cruising over the top of it then you are missing out on the minutia. That said, a fast travel of some description probably wouldn’t hurt
I think the goal is to have airships flying high in the sky over the same seamless landscape you explore on foot. In a previous ATR Tabata said that their team and engine currently isn’t fully capable of delivering the experience they want. So apparently they’re in talks with the Just Cause 3 guys from Avalanche Studios to see if they can incorporate the tech used there into XV. If SE/Avalanche are unable to make this happen then we won’t get the new experience Tabata wants to XV therefore no airships. Needless to say this isn’t core and you won’t need to fly your own ship around to experience the game. But it would be hella cool if they gave us this option later as free DLC.
Lets hope there’s been some serious framerate optimization, the demo I played ran like crap on PS4.
