To make a successful virtual idol like Hatsune Miku, you need two things: a good-sounding virtual voice and awesome visuals of your singer to capture people’s imaginations — which is why Vocaloid character designs tend to be so darn cool looking.
Below is a collection of the best-looking character designs among the dozens of Vocaloids out there. Enjoy!
Akikoloid-chan, Anon and Kanon, Aoki Lapis
Gackpo, Clara and Bruno, Diana
Kagamine Rin and Len, KAITO, Kano Akira
Kobayashi Matcha, Kokone, Lily
Otori Kohaku, Rana, Ring Suzune
SONiKA, Tohoku Zunko, Tone Rion

As far as I can tell awesome visuals = physically impossible hair. I find this whole phenomenon of animated bands/ singers/ software quite interesting, but too be honest stylistically they all seem very similar.
Perhaps that’s fair enough given that it’s already a fairly homogenized dominant style in anime in general so it’s natural this sort of thing would follow in this instance as well, but wouldn’t a style something akin to say Kill La Kill be really cool for a virtual idol? Kudos to the ZOLA project for at least having a different style of illustration (although one not really to my taste).
Your comment was made all that much better when read in the voice of Daria, thank you.
Eh, the ZOLA Project designs never interested me. In fact, they creeped me out severely. However, a Kill La Kill design or any other style would be better, but also quite risky.
