Here’s How You Make Anime Bonkers

How can an anime of yesteryears survive in the fast-paced, highly competitive modern age? That’s the issue that six brothers face in the first episode of Mr. Osomatsu, and their solution is hilariously insane.

The new season of anime has started and right off the bat things are looking insane. One of the new anime this season, Mr. Osomatsu, is a modern day revisiting of a classic 1960’s manga/anime, Osomatsu-kun. The story revolves around identical sextuplets and the general slapstick wackiness in their lives.

The anime was extremely popular when it aired back in the day, but this is 2015, and when you have so many other competitors, some measures must be taken for an originally black and white, cathode ray tube TV aspect ratio anime to survive.

The brothers decide that in order to be popular, they must incorporate popular aspects from other hit anime, starting with Uta no Prince Sama, complete with a musical number.

But no, not only are the boys hyper popular idols at their school, they also protect the world from threats like meteorites.

Unfortunately, after one of the brothers reverts to his original black and white form, alienating their fans, and another character from the 60’s anime appears as a hunky foreign teacher and steals attention, the brothers quickly take up more drastic measures to maintain popularity.

The pursuit of popularity results in a chaotic quagmire of hilarious proportions. And this is only the first episode. I have high hopes for this season.

Osomatsu-san is currently airing in Japan. It can be viewed with subtitles on Crunchyroll.
