WAIT THIS ISN’T A “DISNEY PRINCESSES AS TKTK” POST. Nor is it a Kingdom Hearts post, so sorry. I think it’s something cooler than either of those things.
These illustrations are by David Adhinarya Lojaya, an artist from Indonesia who works in games, film, animation and books. They take Final Fantasy characters from across the series and give them a more Western, animated look.
As abstract as that sounds, remember: for a time, a Western studio had been working on a big Final Fantasy game.
I’m quietly a fan of Spirits Within, but if anyone at Square ever worked up the courage to do another proper movie, well…they would never do this in a million years, but I can dream, can’t I?
You can see more of David’s work at his personal site and ArtStation page.
Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists, showcasing the best of both their professional and personal portfolios.

The real news is that Luke is a fan of “FF: Spirits Within”.
No shame in that, I’ve got two copies of it.
Am I crazy for resenting the fact that absolutely all “Western” art seems to be actively trying to look exactly the same? I’m getting real tired of pretending Cal Arts Face is fresh and inventive.
In the world of cartoons, sassitude is the only emotion.
I’m more worried that every 2D animation is Disney and every 3D animation is Pixar. Kotaku titles call those studios out whenever they feature any sort of animation. It’s mind-numbingly dumb.
Style reminds me of The Emperors New Groove.
Is that Fran in the third pic on the top? Looks fantastic. 🙂
