As noted on Matome Naver and Sankei News, “meat cakes” are becoming somewhat of a thing in Japan. They’re still not that common and I haven’t yet seen one but it looks like others have.

Like this happy person. See, many Japanese people celebrate birthdays at yakiniku (“grilled meat”) restaurants. Instead of ordering sweet cakes, some establishments are offering plates of raw beef, pork or chicken arranged to look like cakes. Meat cakes!

Some people are even making them at home, apparently, or with cooked meat. There doesn’t appear to be hard and fast rules in the world of meat cakes. Yet.
