Earlier this year, Martin Bergman was working on a GTA V graphics mod that looked positively unreal. It’s still not out — he’s been keeping busy with Battlefront — but another modder (Josh Romito) has stepped in and done pretty much the same thing. Only his mod is available right now.
Via Mixed Digital, the mod — called The Pinnacle of V – World Enhancement Project — goes way past slider tweaks and shader enhancements, including new lighting, new weather, and loads of smaller improvements to everything from smoke effects to the amount of time your footprints remain behind.
The biggest and most noticeable change, though, is in the range of all-new textures Josh and some help have made for the game. Clouds, water, plants, grass and blood are now at 4K resolutions, while cars are looking sharp.
You can download the mod (and check out the full list of enhancements) here, with some more screenshots below.

I really should get around to buying GTA
How can someone mod a game and make it looks sooooo much better than the people who originally made it?
The guys making the mod don’t need to worry about making it run at an acceptable frame rate on a reasonable percentage of PC’s. If you don’t need to worry about details like return on a multi-million-dollar investment then you can feel free just target the top 0.1% of PCs and to hell with the rest.
I was thinking that but you could just add some insane extra ultra ultra setting for those people. But then again, I guess the return on investment for doing that isn’t much.
Yeah, that’s the key. Making those kind of textures is an expensive process, and there just aren’t enough people who have the gear to actually make use of them for it to be worthwhile from an economic point of view.
Not only that, 4K textures take up a huge amount of disk space. The mod doesn’t replace very many compared to how many are in the game and it’s already 1GB in size. GTA5 is already 64GB on my hard drive, imagine how much people would complain if it was another 30GB bigger from 4K textures?
A lot of these mods don’t even worry about the game running at an acceptable frame rate on any PC. They take still screenshots to demonstrate how good modern engines can look in UHD with UHD textures.
Even in the video they’ve created for this mod it looks to be struggling to maintain 30fps.
Has anyone seen my jaw? I dropped it…
Yeah, I thought I’d hang onto it in case I run into any dodgy oracles / speaking demons.
Emons!
Is this a Dark Tower reference by any chance?
Yes. Yes it is.
Good.
Whoa… those are insane pictures. Wonder what the framerate is like with all that turned on.
This has prompted me to finally get the game. I’ll get the mod and report back with framerates etc.
Okay, first step, the download is 944 MB, downloading now.
Awaiting results.
Currently crashing, re-checking the install instructions
Hahaha. Keep at it buddy. Would love to hear your findings.
Keep in mind the mod doesn’t replace all the textures yet, it’s still a work in progress. Check the patch notes for areas they have worked on to check quality against. Vespucci Beach is one of them, I think.
Hmm, well I am getting a new graphics card soon…
Some parts look really good and some slip into that uncanny valley
No screenshots of the strip club?
Fast racing Neo on the Wii U is going to have some 5K and 10K textures.
These screenshots are getting me ridiculously excited for the NX. Now if Nintendo would ever let GTA on their consoles.
stuff it, I’m selling my car and getting a super computer
