Umm.. Is an emulator really something you guys should be reporting on? I mean say what you will about freeware etc.. We know what everyone uses it for 😛
Playing their old games without keeping a bunch of systems hooked up to a tv? That’s what I use them for. They also make blurry PS2 games actually payable again.
Absolutely, I’m currently playing Final Fantasy XII again, even as my copy sits on the shelf. The ability to upscale the resolution makes the game look fantastic in 1080p.
Of there wasn’t licencing, regional or just plain monetary issues getting all the old games up & available digitally, I’d buy them.
My Vita is packed with PSP & PSX and I own a bunch of PS2 on PS3.
Unfortunately, some of the less popular shit just disappears.
Or like Outrun 2, great game, but that Ferrari licence isn’t getting renewed for the meager amount making a digital copy available would bring.
Stupid money 🙁
I have to admit, of all the PSX games Ive gotten with the emulation systems, I’ve consistently gone back to the games I used to own, barely ever touched ones I didn’t. Nostalgia I guess, but can’t beat G Police or Colony Wars!!!
I buy all those cool RPGs that never made it too Australia, but yeah, nostalgia gaming is fun too!
I see that as fair too tbh. I know its still piracy, but when studios are stupid enough to not release xenogears here for example, what are we to do eh?
There are many games which are so rare or expensive that the only way to play them is emulation. It’s a murky legal area for sure but companies should invest more resources into legacy titles emulated legitimately . What we currently have access to is rather limited to say the least.
How good does it emulate these consoles though ?
Emulators specific for just n64 still aren’t fully compatable.
Project64 and mupen64plus are probably the best two out there. Near perfect on majority of games (and can make them look a substantial amount better with upscaling and texture filtering support).
Wow. For Mac. -__-
OpenEmu is/was based on Retroarch, so use that if you’ve got a windows PC.
