XCOM 2 isn’t out yet, but the game’s hardcover art book is, and the publishers were kind enough to pass some images along to Fine Art for a little showcase of the Firaxis artist’s work.
There’s a nice mix here of character art, environment stuff and even some animation tests, which we don’t get to see enough of here.
The artists included here are Piero Macgowan, Seamas Gallagher, Aaron Whitehead and Alan Denham (in-game models).
You can grab the book here.
Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists, showcasing the best of both their professional and personal portfolios.

Still find it kind of strange that a female snake-like alien has breasts for some reason. Aside from the astronomical coincidence that the alien looks like an animal on earth, the notion that a snake would have breasts is bizarre and ridiculous.
Well she’s got hands as well so she’s definitely not all snake. Those aliens love their genetic engineering so maybe she made by splicing in human DNA. Or maybe I’m needlessly defending my beloved franchise.
It gets weirder. The Firaxis guys apparently said that the Viper is a Thin Man’s original form before being genetically altered to be more human.
Realistically, I’d say they’re just drawing on Naga mythology. From a science-y point of view, it looks like they’re not mammalian breasts (ie. For breast feeding) so I’d say that given they have a more human like musculatory system for the upper half then it’s similar to human physiology in that we can store fat on our chest area. (Think moobs)
Basically, I’m not gonna say it’s aliens, but it’s aliens.
