Many fans were surprised when Final Fantasy XIII‘s pink-haired heroine traded in her Firaga in favour of being a fashion model. In a completely made-up interview given exclusively to UK’s Telegraph, Lightning reveals how significantly pricey clothing has changed her life.
Fans called Lightning modelling purses and other items designed by Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière absurd. They said that Sera, Lightning’s less hard-edged younger sister, would be a more appropriate representative for the fashion house. Lightning addressed those concerns today in an interview delivered exclusively to The Telegraph via the fashion house’s marketing team.
My clothes were nothing more than armour to stay alive; “dressing up” was a concept I’ve never had. Perhaps that makes me an unseemly choice as ambassador. But this experience has opened my eyes. Fashion isn’t something you’re taught or given, it comes from your own taste and your own choices. It displays the essence of who you are to the people around you.

According to the complete nonsense I desperately want to believe is real in terms of Final Fantasy‘s fictional universe, it was the work of Nicolas Ghesquière that changed Lightning’s attitude towards dressing up.
Though his style was new to me, the moment I laid eyes on his collection, it was as if I was hit by a bolt of lightning. I knew that with this, people could change. I could change.
If this were a more informal interview instead of a simple Q&A, I imagine Lightning giggling girlishly at her use of her own name in that comparison and then stabbing her interviewer in the chest with the blade she’s used to slaughter thousands of men, women and monsters over the course of her three game series.
Seriously, what is her neck doing here?
The interview touches on Lightning’s feelings about other famous models (“I hope that one day, we can share the same stage, that different worlds can come together”) and what it feels like to be a Louis Vuitton ambassador (“It makes me feel excited, a feeling similar to when I venture to unknown lands”) but fails to touch on how her extensive experience walking in a straight line benefits runway work.
As ridiculous as all of this is, I desperately want it to be canon. Those of you familiar with the ending of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII know it could work. Right place, right time, that sort of thing. Sure it might mean no more games with Lightning in them, but perhaps it wouldn’t.
One day, not so far in the future, I will be out there again, in a world of strife. But I won’t be the same person I was before. I will return to my origins, like a Mobius strip, but it will be a new me, one who has evolved.
I look forward to the day we meet again.
Lightning: Not all that clear on how a Mobius Strip works.
Until then, Lightning will be living the high life of a fictional fashion model, changing clothes and poses with the click of a mouse.
LV is a new adventure―a new fantasy―that I will enjoy from the bottom of my heart.

This is awesome. The sheer absurdity and misreading of the fan base is fantastic, I hope we see more of this. As someone who loved the FFXIII franchise, this is like sadomasochism for me, I love it.
They should make a game like Lightning Returns but all the different outfits are Louis Vuitton.
Why limit ourselves to just Louie V? I say Squeenix should go full hog and partner with Kim Kardashian and make Kim Kardashian: Cocoon, where l’Cie and Hollywood celebrities alike can look good and kick fal’Cie butt
I would pay for a Final Fantasy Fashion Sim.
Oh wait, I already pay for and play Final Fantasy 14.
I wonder how many people found the FFIX Coke commercial absurd…
Do you think Luis Vuitton had a spat with their manufacturers and thought – “screw it, I’ll just make fake clothes for a fake character, much easier”.
There’s so much photoshop on both the clothes and the models these days it doesn’t matter.
1. Considering all of her alt outfits, her being a model isn’t too far a leap. And it would hardly be the most absurd thing about her if true.
2. Didn’t the final Final Fantasy 13 game reboot or reset Lightning/her entire world? Or something?
