How did xenoblade slip everyone’s mind? I’m 80 hours in and it’s goddamned glorious!
I haven’t gone back to Fallout 4 since I got Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Oh my god.. I cant wait to get it tonight! Thanks to Xmas I had to put it off a couple of weeks (atleast I got to complete Fallout 4). Sad that everyone is overlooking it…
The whole game is set out like a sprawling anime story. The story missions are the core arc, and the affinity missions are the character development side arcs (and the run the gamut from maudlin to quite funny). There’s bucket loads of story, and the amount available to you just keeps expanding. Whoever said that it was light compared to xenoblade 1 clearly didn’t branch out at all!
And even though it has been a sore point with many, I find the character models to be a pretty good representation of the anime aesthetic, especially when compared to 3d based series like knights of sidonia.
The skells hit every mecha cue you can imagine, and even the music feels like it was ripped from a funkier Gundam series, strangely Germanic lyrics and all.
I wish the music volume knew when to back off during cutscenes, and the interior camera speed needs to be adjustable. The way your silent protagonist makes choices is also a bit clunky, but it’s serviceable.
The voice acting is above average, and the translation writing is commendably sharp with a lot of attention paid to accents, turns of phrase, and Western pop culture.
And L is just the best.
I haven’t quite finished the story because I’m plugging away at the affinity missions, but I’ve enjoyed this more than the witcher 3 and xenoblade 1, which is seriously high praise.
To whomever thinks ARK is great: Do you play on an ‘Official’ server? Does the rubber banding not annoying you?
Squad!
