Hyper Light Drifter Pre-Orders Are Live, But Wii U Release Is In ‘Limbo’

After reaching its original crowdfunding goal of US$27,000 back in September 2013, Hyper Light Drifter has finally become available for pre-order — almost two years after its original deadline.

The hand-animated 2D action RPG became available for pre-order on Good Old Games this morning for $17.99 dollarydoos, with the price rising to a more standard $19.99 presumably post-release.

The developers also announced this morning through a Kickstarter update that the Wii U release of the game was “currently in limbo” as a result of a long-running saga between the developer and the creator of the engine powering Hyper Light Drifter.

“However, due to ongoing internal contractual issues beyond our control between the platform holder and engine developer, we just don’t know when or if this situation will have a good resolution. We are looking into the options available and doing what we can to help push the issue, including posting about it here,” Heart Machine wrote.

They added that if they are unable to push out a Wii U port by the end of the year, they will offer backers “a key on another platform of your choice”. “We would rather keep this option open, knowing there’s still a possibility for it to work, than cancel the port right now.”

For those playing on PC, the specifications were also released. As you’d expect of an indie title, they’re not too substantial.

Intel Core i5 equivalent
3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 9
4GB RAM
1.5 GB HD space
Mouse, Keyboard

The GOG listing adds that the game will also support Mac (OSX 10.9 or later) as well as Linux (Mint 17 and Ubuntu 14.04).
