Reports: Pokemon GO Won’t Be Available In Australia Or New Zealand Straight Away

In a new interview with Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, the head of The Pokemon Company has confirmed more details about the rollout of Pokemon GO.

According to Serebii, which ran with the first translation, Pokemon Company CEO Tsnuekazu Ishihara told the Yomiuri Shimbun that North America, Japan and Europe would be the first three regions to get access to Pokemon GO. The game would then be brought to South America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, although it wasn’t confirmed whether Australia or New Zealand was considered part of Asia in their thinking.

Ishihara reportedly also said that the company was working on another major project in the Pokemon universe. John Hanke, chief executive of Niantic — the company that developed Ingress, which is also working on Pokemon GO — will be talking about the mobile game on March 14 at this year’s Game Developers Conference.

“Attendees will get a first-hand, in-depth look at how players are interacting and exploring the world with one another through Pokemon GO,” the panel description says, “the collaborative approach to design and development for the game and the next evolution of augmented reality and real-world mobile gameplay experiences.”

We’ve reached out to Nintendo’s local team for confirmation; if we hear back or get any updates, we’ll let you know.
