Some of the big sellers will not surprise you. Some of them might.
In the latest Weekly Famitsu, the magazine looks back at the last two years of PS4 hardware and software sales. As of 7 February 2016, here are the biggest selling games in Japan, based on Famitsu‘s retail sales data:
20. Watch Dogs: 99,323 units
19. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Subtitled Ver): 102,716 units
18. Battlefield Hardline: 113,061 units
17. Battlefield 4: 113,928 units
16. Destiny: 125,900 units
15. Yakuza: Kiwami: 131,205 units
14. Yakuza: Isshin: 134,010 units
13. Final Fantasy Type-0 HD: 140,0046 units
12. Yakuza 0: 146,510 units
11. The Witcher 3: 149,337 units
10. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes: 155,598 units
9. Dragon Quest Builders: 170,168 units
8. Star Wars Battlefront: 187,434 units

6. Fallout 4: 206,712 units
5. Bloodborne: 209,985 units
4. Call of Duty: Black Ops III: 310,238 units
3. Dragon Quest Heroes: 327,019 units
2. Knack: 400,888
1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain: 425,971 units
Note: Knack was originally bundled with the PS4, but those bundled units are still counted, it seems.
So. Any surprises? Pretty easy to see why Sony was so keen to work with Hideo Kojima after he left Konami.

Knack?!
That was my thought as well. All these great games, and Knack at #2. It’s not TERRIBLE, but it’s not all that good either.
Well obviously excluding the bundled Knack which doesn’t really count.. Watchdogs? Lol!
But honestly the rest of the list isn’t too surprising. Final fantasy type 0 would obviously perform better in japan, it was a bit of a dog in the west in terms of sales.
3 different Yakuza titles which aren’t available in the west… Lame.
Makes you wonder surely they’d sell more than double that number if Yakuza games in the west alone (like it my not be a million seller but it would still sell more than they’re achieving on the PS4 in Japan alone
I’m surprised that BlOps3 is so high on the list. FPS aren’t too popular in Japan as it is elsewhere.
I’m surprised there aren’t more japan exclusive titles. I’d have thought there would be a bunch of JRPG games in there.
This is a surprisingly Western-influenced list. I had to check twice when I saw Watch Dogs and Call of Duty on there…
Check next week’s list for sf5
Top seller only being 400K is horrifying. C’mon Japan buy more console games!
