The HD version of Tim Schafer’s classic time-travelling adventure game, Day of the Tentacle, hits PC in exactly two weeks, on March 22.
The announcement appeared on GOG, which is hosting an exclusive pre-order campaign for the remaster. They included a features summary:
Day of the Tentacle Remastered is all the adventure you may remember with an optional layer of sweet improvements on top. You can mix and match between the unmistakably 1990s pixely art and a fresh high-res coat of paint, remastered audio, and an all new interface. There are extra goodies in the Remastered release as well, including in-game developer commentary and a fully playable version of the original Maniac Mansion.
Along with a video message from Tim Schafer:
In an email, GOG brand director Tomasz Nalewajk has confirmed to Kotaku that the Vita and PS4 versions are also coming out on the 22nd. Here’s the press release excerpt he included:
Double Fine Productions, in collaboration with Lucasfilm, is pleased to announce that Day of the Tentacle Remastered is available to pre order today for PlayStation®4, PlayStation®Vita, and PC and will be released on March 22nd.
The game will be listed on PlayStation®Network as a Cross-Buy title for $14.99 with a 10% pre-order discount and sports a new PlayStation®4 theme as a pre-order bonus.
Note that this press release relates to the US, so Australian details may differ.

This is all well and good and something I’ll buy but don’t insult my intelligence by saying including the original manic mansion title as a feature.. It’s in the fooking original!!!
There seems to be some odd confusion about this. If you watch Tim Schafer’s play-through of DOTT from the DFA sidequest he seems to be under the impression that Maniac Mansion was missing from the CD release. It’s definitely in my CD version, though.
True, although that stuff often gets stripped out of re-releases. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time had the original game hidden inside it in the PS2 release, but it was removed when the HD version came out for PS3.
Maniac Mansion was already in the original release anyway.
No PC version? Boooo
And will it have a Maniac Mansion full game as an “easter egg”?
pssst it’s on PC too
Am I missing out on some joke somewhere??
By all means flame me to hell if I’m being an idiot!
Of course you’re an idiot. You actually read the article when you could have had someone else read it for you and answer your questions. ^_-
DUH!
So we got Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle on PS4, now we just need Full Throttle to complete the trifecta.
Not exactly an extra goodie, considering Maniac Mansion was in the original release of DOTT as well, but good to see it’s being included. I remember how clunky the game got switching between the two on PC back in the day.
It was an awful Easter Egg (or, at least, awfully implemented).
I had no idea that using the computer in Weird Ed’s room fired up Maniac Mansion and I hadn’t saved my game at all since I started playing. DOTT gets shut down without warning, Maniac Mansion starts up, and exiting that just dumps you back to the desktop. Back to the beginning of the game for you!
I thought I crashed the game when it first happened, good thing I subscribed to Sierra’s old mantra “Save early, save often”
Looking forward to it mainly for the commentary. I love watching movies and TV shows and playing games with commentary!
I don’t think i’ve ever been so happy! All we need is Full Throttle or Sam n Max (or both) to complete the set!
Full Throttle is on its way.
I love Sam & Max, but it seems pretty unlikely given that whoever resurrected it would need to acquire the licence to both the game and the characters, and none of the leads involved in the original seem to be active in the video games industry to give it a push. We can but dream.
Is this for USA STORE or the AUS STORE for the pre-order deal?
