Support for VR headsets was a given even before Elite: Dangerous was released, but, with the latest announcement from Frontier Developments that the title will be one of the first to feature on the Oculus storefront, it’s officially blazing a trail for virtual reality games.
Lee Hutchinson over at Ars Technica recently chatted with studio head David Braben, who was able to confirm the news that the game will be a part of the store come its 28 March launch.
The Ars story goes on to mention that the Oculus store version will be the same as the Deluxe Edition, which comes with the base game, along with Pilot starter pack and Horizons season pass.
Exciting news… if you have the Rift hardware and a PC powerful enough to drive Elite‘s VR experience. Unfortunately, if you have neither, the start-up costs are significant — a $1100 headset and between $500-$1500 on computer upgrades, depending on what you’re starting from.
Well, no one said the future of gaming would be cheap.

It’s amazing even on a DK1, although positional tracking would be nice.
