Diablo II just got its first patch since 2011 (October 27, to be exact). It’s not a content patch, but it helps ensure that the game can run on current platforms. How cool is that?
Here’s Blizzard on Diablo II‘s 1.14a patch:
This update focuses on system glitches introduced by modern operating systems. In related news, you can finally retire those old Mac PowerPCs. Included with the update is a shiny new installer for OSX.
We’ve also begun working to improve our cheat-detection and hack-prevention capabilities. There’s still work to be done, but we’re making improvements every day.
There is still a large Diablo II community around the world, and we thank you for continuing to play and slay with us. This journey starts by making Diablo II run on modern platforms, but it does not end there. See you in Sanctuary, adventurers.
Good to see games continuing to get the support they deserve, not just from players but from developers, too.

I think im still rocking 1.12 due to mod support.
Pretty crazy to think that its still getting attention after all these years, think its going to be one of those timeless classics
I’m planning on being buried with a copy of D2.
To be honest.. Diablo 3 has improved and is now in a lot of ways on par or slightlh better than D2. But not every way… so im glad to see its still getting love. D2 outside of pokemon, is probably my most played game.
And for those wondering, i still think the move away from skill trees and synergies is a bad move, and i still find the loot of D2 more fun in a weird way. D3s just seems so dull.. maybe its just that i keep seeing better versions of the exact same loot drop.
I nearly failed year 9 because of D2. Good times.
Might have to install Diablo 2 again and give it another spin after all these years 🙂
Click click click click click…. i remember the exact moment where i though to myself… what am i doing with my. Cant believe people still play it.
Is this all they have done in this patch?
I don’t understand why sp many people are replaying when they haven’t added anything.
If there really is nothing added this is a great tactic by Blizzard to get people playing again without (seemingly) much work.
I think it is more a case of “oh they got it working easily of moderns systems. I might just revisit that gem” and I say this cause I am on the exact same train of thought.
Yeah that’s what I thought. I guess I was hoping there were some other things added that I missed.
Everyone should be giving Median a go if they liked D2. Such an amazing mod.
Never heard of “Median” I will check it out!
If you’re a Diablo fan you are missing out.
There’s still heavy development going on in the community.
The whole thing was taken over by another guy who updated the original mod but is also recreating everything in a similar but new mod called Median Sigma.
It’s been teased for years so don’t hold your breath though.
In the meantime Median Ultimative (I think that’s the most recent one) will keep you preoccupied for ages.
Complete redesign of everything really, new quests, items are completely different, heaps of Uber-Quests for end game and mid game.
I absolutely loved it.
It’s a shame I don’t have as much time to play any more.
dude, do you know when’s the release date? been playing MXL for a while and thought everything was OP. It’s fun, but too OP. wanted to try sumthing new but balanced…
Slightly off topic but has any one got diablo 1 running on later MACs… With or without Hellfire?
