IKEA In VR? Sure, Why Not

IKEA In VR? Sure, Why Not

For your Sunday afternoon viewing pleasure, watch me go to IKEA.

Yes, as part of humanity’s ceaseless goal to bring every element of RR into VR because, screw it, why not, there’s an IKEA VR Experience. Upon hearing the title, I actually found myself somewhat excited at the prospect of exploring a sometimes overwhelming store from the comfort of my own living room. I mean, how many times have you had to take multiple trips to IKEA just to measure the size of something, or to spend eons agonising over two extremely similar office chairs? That, but without a commute? Sounds downright convenient!

And hey, I occasionally kinda enjoy just wandering around IKEA. There’s something weirdly comforting about the place despite the fact that, between purgatory-white walls and a meticulously sterilised depiction of “home” life, it’s like something out of dystopian fever flick Brazil.

Unfortunately, I found that instead of throwing in everything and the kitchen sink, the creators of IKEA VR Experience only put in a kitchen sink. It really is just a kitchen, a proof-of-concept and nothing more. It’s a shame, but I still did my solemn duty and recorded a quick video. Watch:
