Because of course it is. Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is nothing if not ceaselessly delightful.
In a new interview with Comic Book Resources, creative team Ryan North and Erica Henderson revealed that this month’s Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #7, in which Doreen and her pals take on low-rent supervillain Swarm, will in fact let readers decide the outcome. Whether or not Squirrel Girl retains her “unbeatable” title literally rests in your hands!
It’s not the first time someone’s done a choose-your-own-adventure issue of a comic — in fact, Ryan North already tackled the idea with a fantastic issue of the Adventure Time ongoing a few years ago — but it’s the sort of fun, goofy idea of playing with the comic book medium that just works perfectly for this Squirrel Girl series. Plus, as North says, it’s fun to imagine scenarios in which Doreen’s victories aren’t exactly guaranteed:
A lot of the fun of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is that “unbeatable” is there in the title, and I was thinking, ‘Hey, what if we showed how that happened?’ And then, since the reader is making the choices, there’s lots of ways you can mess up and become The Extremely Beatable Squirrel Girl.
So this was one way to have fun with that, while also letting readers get (literally) inside the head of Squirrel Girl to see how they’d handle the high-stakes superhero battles that she for some reason gets involved in on the regular.
Also, I can’t get over how delightful this faux-retro cover is:
Never stop being amazing, Squirrel Girl team. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #7 arrives on April 27.

They’re trying any gimmick they can to sell a comic no one wants.
