Clearly not busy enough with Titanfall 2, the developers at Respawn are working with EA on a new Star Wars game, they announced today.
EA says it will be a third-person action-adventure game, just like the one that’s currently in development at Visceral (Dead Space). Says the company:
Today, I’m thrilled to be able to announce that EA and the talented team at Respawn Entertainment have expanded our relationship to include the development of an all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. They join our other great studios — Visceral Games, DICE, Capital Games, BioWare, Motive and more — who are currently working on Star Wars projects.
This one will be helmed by Stig Asmussen, best known as the director of God of War III, who joined Respawn in 2014 to work on a new IP. Presumably that new IP transformed into a Star Wars game along the way.
Asmussen also put up a blog post about the game:
For me, just typing these words is surreal. I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Warsgame. On top of that, I get to do it at Respawn, a studio comprised of the most talented collection of game makers, creators, visionaries, and (most importantly) advocates for the player, that I have had the good fortune to work with. And we, like you all, have no shortage of Star Wars passion.
The entire company erupted in cheers when it was announced that this would be our next endeavour.
But it’s not all fun and games — we promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet. Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics. Moving forward, we couldn’t ask for a better universe in which to continue this journey, and although I would love to share all of the exciting places we are going, we have the following piece of information to divulge with you all today:
We’ll be making a third-person action/adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.

Kotor?
man another one of these would be awesome, spent countless hours playing them
Awesome!!
Don’t fuck it up
Gotta admit that I’m a bit worried considering the last offerings we got from both companies.
I see a whole lot of online only coming and that makes me a sad panda
Titanfall is excellent fun!
star wars 1313 reviving?
My first thought exactly
I thought that was what Visceral were working on?!
Not sure. I originally thought the whole code got scrapped, but figured maybe a couple of devs slid across to Respawn (or something like that). Disregarding, of course, the legal mess that it might all create.
Hopefully this will be one you can use light sabers and force powers and not a boring gun fest that was Battlefront. And if guns are added then at least make it like Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Or just remake Jedi Academy that was so fun!
Oh man, gimme blasters over Space Magic any day.
Agreed. All my favourite Star Wars games (except KotOR) have been non-Jedi based games.
The whole point of star wars is the the sabers and the force. How boring would the movies be if it was just blasters. I liked Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast because you could use everything so the gameplay could be changed up.
Lost me at third person.
Not being a Star Wars fan this week has been a teensy bit grating but hey, I could go some Rogue Squadron any time.
By golly EA has some talent under its wings now doesn’t it. Will probably have to play at least one of these when they release.
Its a shame that that talent is largely wasted. Cant remember an EA game I’ve played that didnt have something fundamentally wrong with it.
I can see the title for this game ‘The Star Wars Division’. The PVP side of the game will involve going into the Death Star zone, killing rogue rebel agents, collecting items and extracting them out on a imperial shuttle flown by Ewoks.
If it’s not a completely online experience, I’ll be happy.
I’m picturing a Titanfall style game where they replace the Mech’s with AT-STs.
