What Battlefield 1 Gets Right (And Wrong) About World War I

From a historical standpoint, World War I is maybe the most interesting conflict in human history — just in terms of the technological leaps and how that led to the large scale slaughter of human beings. It’s gonna be strange to see that rendered in video game form.

This video is really good. It goes into the minutiae of the recent Battlefield 1 trailer. It discusses what it gets right (and what it gets wrong) from a historical standpoint. It also gives us a pretty good idea of what we might expect from the game.

It’s funny, so much of World War II is emblazoned in modern culture, but much of World War I and its sheer brutality is unknown to most. If you want to play catch-up I highly recommend the Hardcore History podcast, which has a multi-part series on World War I. It’s also probably the best podcast in the world.
