Announced this weekend during the 2016 Dead or Alive Festival in Japan, The King of Fighters’ Mai Shiranui will be joining the roster of Dead or Alive 5: Last Round for the PlayStation 4 in September. Nippon ichi!
Years before Dead or Alive introduced breast physics to 3D fighters, SNK’s Mai was generating sympathetic back pain in two dimensions via the Fatal Fury series, starting with Fatal Fury 2 in 1992 (though her physics were censored in many early Western releases.)
Seeing her design for her Dead or Alive debut, it’s as if she were in the game the entire time. Check out the live reveal of Dead of Alive Mai at the 4:04:30 mark in the video below.
Mai will arrive in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round for the PlayStation 4 in September, one month after she arrives as part of the Women Fighters Team in The King of Fighters XIV.

Not even. The DLC costs several times more than the game does at this point. They’ve had I think five $100 season passes so far.

Dead or Alive 5 won’t feature DLC fighters according to Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi. He revealed that he thinks adding characters to fighting games through downloadable content is “unfair.” and explained that it isn’t “the right way to go.”
Dude, read it again. She’s not DLC, she’s part of the stock line-up.
Yeah, you’re wrong there. Dead or Alive 5: Last Round has been out since mid-February 2015, and Mai certainly hasn’t been in the roster since launch. And on top of that, Mai isn’t even the first paid DLC character. That honour goes to Naotora Ii from Samurai Warriors, who dropped in mid-March 2016.
You may very well be thinking of King of Fighters XIV, in which Mai is indeed in the game’s main lineup.

That was back in 2012 though. Obviously he changed his mind when he saw the fat stacks of cash they were making.
They’ve added tons of characters since the original DoA5 shipped. DoA5 Ultimate added Rachel and Momiji, Marie Rose, Phase-4 and Nyotengu were all DLC characters originally, rolled into the base game when they re-released on PS4, PC and Xbox One (as ‘Last Round’), and that version also added extra characters too (Honoka, Raidou). Then they’ve added Naotora to Last Round, and Mai will be the second DLC character added.

Article only mentions PS4 release for Mai, but everywhere else indicates that Mai will also be available on Xbox One.
I’ve noticed that most Kotaku articles will only mention PS releases even if there will be versions for PC and/or XBOX.
At 3:59:00 it looks like there’ll be an Attack on Titan stage and costumes for everyone
