There’s been a lot of talk about Squirrel Girl’s hoped-for ascent from comic book page to big screen — she is, after all, the best Marvel character not yet in the movies. But now, this intriguing bit of news: A New Warriors TV series may soon be announced, with the fan-favourite character smack at its centre.

TV Line doesn’t name its sources, but how cool does this sound:
Marvel and ABC Studios are developing a New Warriors comedy series that would put the spotlight on little-known comic book heroine Squirrel Girl, TVLine has learned exclusively. Both Marvel and ABC Studios declined to comment, but sources confirm that the half-hour project is currently being shopped around to cable and streaming outlets.
Described as the junior version of The Avengers, the New Warriors are a superhero squad made up of teenagers, one of whom would include Doreen Green (aka Squirrel Girl). For the record, SG can do more than just communicate with the world’s vast squirrel population; she also possesses super-speed and strength.
“Little-known” if you don’t read Kotaku, that is. We’ll be keeping tabs on this rumour for sure.

If they do, you can kiss your chances of Squirrel girl ever appearing in a Marvel movie goodbye.
Come now, that was never going to happen.
Maybe, but there’s been a massive division between Marvel movies and Marvel TV that’s been revealed in the last 12 months, the ‘connection’ only truly goes one way. Lady Sif and Nick Fury were outliers, the guy running Marvel TV doesn’t want much to do with the cinematic universe as he doesn’t get along with Kevin Feige etc. It’s so stupid…
He’s also the guy responsible for all of Marvel’s toys and brand marketing. Hence only “toys are for boys” line of thinking. I’ll be surprised if there’s even a Captain Marvel toy.
Yep he’s the asshole who is fully responsible for scrubbing Black Widows and even Pepper Potts toylines earlier which would’ve been utterly fantastic :\
Odd that they’re pairing up Squirrel Girl and the New Warriors since the two have had nothing to do with each other before.
But regardless, as a big fan of both I’m keen for it! Just hope it’s set in the MCU (even if they’ll never appear in the cinematic versions of same).
Reckon they will just use the premise but won’t stick too closely to the roster, specifically the reality tv angle.
I figure they wanted to use Squirrel Girl and do a team series, but thought the Great Lakes Avengers maybe weren’t cool enough.
Even though the GLA are getting a new ongoing comic book series starting in October and New Warriors are nought but a memory at this stage?
Yeah, but this is their first ongoing ever(As far as I know), to the New Warriors three or four.
It seemed pretty likely that something was in the works given the whole “Squirrel Girl isn’t a mutant” thing a while back removing any conflict with Fox. I was hoping for another Disney animation ala Big Hero 6. Squirrel Girl seems ideal for that kind of treatment.
Think that was more just a joke, don’t see that it would change who her held her rights (outside being a mutant she has no connection with X-Men) I mean if Marvel could just say Wolverine and Deadpool aren’t mutants anymore and suddenly be able to use the rights I think they probably would have done it by now.
