Viz Media is celebrating its 30th anniversary, so congrats to Viz! To mark the occasion, famed manga artists sent signed drawings to the company. One of them in particular, however, stands out in the cool drawing department.

As pointed out on 2ch, Twitter user Robert snapped these, among other, signed drawings. Most of them are simply that: Signed drawings. For example, here is Eiichiro Oda’s.

It’s cool, but yeah, standard stuff.

Ditto for Akira Toriyama.

And for Masashi Kishimoto.
But check out Tite Kubo’s Bleach drawing.

So good. At the top, it reads “Viz”, and below that, he’s written “30” (三十) in Japanese. Inside that, he drew Bleach’s Ichigo Kurosaki. No signature is necessary for a drawing this striking.
You can see more drawings on Robert’s Twitter.

I’ve found that tite kubo’s flair for dynamic layout and title pages are a cut above the rest of the rest of manga artists today. He’s got a great grasp of the use of negative space and visual flow.
It just sucks that he was unable to finish Bleach like he envisioned.. That manga ended up being a disappointment.
Alright, now I’m curious – how did Kubo envision Bleach ending?
Something along the lines of:
Ywach opening a wormhole 10 years into the future was supposed to be for him to escape death. Ichigo and the rest of the cast was supposed to use those 10 years to train and improve, because Ywach could arrive at any moment, and when he did, Ichigo & the gang, the Vaizards, Arrancar, Fullbringers and Gotei 13 would be waiting for him, game over. All the different factions were essentially united under Ichigo’s leadership, bringing closure to most of the minor characters.
At least that what was said in some japanese extract.
Kubo is a great artist, both sequential and static. Not so much of a great storyteller, though.
