We’ve already gotten glimpses of Scarlett Johansson as The Major and Pilou Asbæk as Batou. If these leaked photos are to be believed, here is our first look at the other members of Public Security Section 9.

Of course, Section 9 is the intelligence department in the Ghost in the Shell universe and headed up by Chief Daisuke Aramaki.
These unconfirmed photos have been floating around on sites in Asia, including major ones like Apple Daily.
Beat Takeshi as Daisuke Aramaki.
Here’s Chin Han as Togusa.

Not cool, this is wrong and so many levels.
What exactly is?
Who can help me plot out a film/remaster/SAC series binge?
I really need to do this before the movie comes out. always thought Arakami was Togusa.
is the movie related to the timeline?
off the top of my head the timeline is Ghost in the Shell (2015) => Ghost in the Shell (1995) => Stand Alone Complex => Stand Alone Complex 2nd gig / Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (both are set in the year 2032)
the newest anime series, Ghost in the Shell Arise (either OVA or the Alternative Architecture anime series) is basically a prequel telling how Section 9 was formed
Movie timeline:
Arise -> The New Movie (2015) -> Ghost in the Shell -> Innocence
TV timeline
Arise -> The New Movie (2015) -> SAC -> SAC 2nd Gig -> Solid State Society
Arise is a prequel about the origins of the group so it kind of works in both timelines, but I haven’t seen the movie they made to cap it off so not sure if that still works.
Also you should just skip Arise entirely as it sucks and just stick to the TV series & Solid State Society. If you go back to the original 1995 movie, make sure it’s not the godawful recent ‘director’s cut’ of it where Oshii decided to pull a George Lucas and go back and replace a bunch of shots with awful 3DCG.
Wait they made a new movie? Any good?
Haven’t seen it. It’s the conclusion to Arise though so presumably it has okay atmosphere, fugly art, 3DCG overuse and pedestrian music…
So looking forward to this. Can’t wait to see how they butcher this one !
They actually look fairly accurate except for Boma
Yeah, I don’t know what the hell’s going on there. The rest look good though, if it’s true.
Was thinking the same thing. Looks like someone took a normal photo and then stuck googly eyes on it…
I would put the Boma oddness down to just the poor photographs. The one I actually thought was least fitting is Togusa. The others stuck reasonably to the original. But Togusa who was always long haired and the sort of casual odd man (normal) in the group now looks like a sidekick for Aramaki.
Why is Togusa so old?
He’s supposed to represent the humanity side of the team, the only one besides Aramaki who isn’t fully cybernetic and has a family…
Kinda looks like Togusa and Batou swapped ages.
I was thinking the same thing, like how in the fuck does that look like Togusa
It’ll all come down to acting. I’d rather a character that looks different, but acts how I’d expect, rather than one who looks spot on and butchers the acting. Both would be nice though 😛
Except I feel like he could play Paz with ease.
Looks a lot better than I was previously expecting to be honest!
I hope they don’t ruin my favourite anime movie of all time! Although I must say this international cast looks promising.
Batou doesn’t have cybernetic eyes?
The eyes are bugging me cause they are like his Military Hardware eyes that anyone with military experience looks at him and just step out if his way.
I assume its an early screen shot or corrected in post CGI, if they are doing it to potray facial emotion and his eye tracking they got the wrong idea. In a classic investigation story tracking the movement of the investigators eyes when they spot something is classic cinematograhy… In Ghost in the shell that eye tracking is mostky done first person tgrough the HUD except in Togasa case where he tends to look at it like a Detective then brings up the HUD (SAC episode 1 for example)
Yeah I thought it was weird that they gave Batou’s eyes to Boma…and made them about twice as big.
I’ll see this film just to see Takeshi Kitano in action!
They’re probably gonna butcher the story but the cast looks good!
Well…except for Boma’s eyes; just make em smaller, do cg eyes or something…the Deus Ex Gunther Hermann looking thing they’ve got going on him now is weird to say the least (and I know Batou’s eyes look like that in the anime but it just doesn’t translate to weird irl goggles).
Takeshi Kitano as Aramaki is actually kind of perfect.
Looks good to me, bring on the trailer.
Do you think so? His acting is so mannered though … it kinda fits with the Aramaki of Stand Alone Complex, but not really the movies and certainly not the comics. I think it could be either great or terrible…
WTF They have killed Batou . he is a gruff ex agent and the guy playing him looks like a weakling.
Tawanda Manyimo as Boma. This is Just WRONG on so Many levels.
Though I ask the Question Where is PAZ !!!!
The only way this movie can be made right is for the director to be Keishi Ōtomo and to be produced by Osamu Kubota .
So that it keeps the complexity of the Ghost in the Shell story and isn’t DUMBED DOWN for American/Western Audiences.
F*ck the haters, I’m on board.
Yeah, me too!
I’ve seen nothing to suggest that this isn’t going to be at the very least entertaining. People just like complaining for the sake of complaining.
So we had all that hate & vitriol spew forth from a White actress playing an Asian character. Can we expect a similar occurrence due to 2 other Asian roles being portrayed by Black actors. Outrage anyone? Nope? Oh right, we only get angry when Whites take the roles…
But in all seriousness I’m waiting for the trailer. Some things look good, others not so much. Seeing it in motion will be what sells it.
Thought this thread might last the entire day without someone trying to score points.
