Last weekend, I hopped a train to Baltimore to report at Otakon, an anime convention with upwards of 20,000 attendees, many of whom were decked out in mind-meltingly good cosplay. One thing I noticed was that, on the whole, Otakon’s women were absolutely killing it cosplaying Overwatch heroes.

One of Overwatch’s main draws is its heroes’ costume designs, which, although complex, beg to be tackled by seasoned cosplayers. At Otakon, there are a hell of a lot of those. The wealth of heroes of colour, female heroes and heroes with varying body types also drew in cosplayers who rarely before identified strongly with video game characters. Kotaku writer Luke Plunkett has documented someamazinginstances of that. Below are my own photos from Otakon:

where is reinhardt
Gotta give credit to the female roadhog. Bad pun aside, it must have taken a lot of guts to do something so revealing. It certainly paid off, the costume’s amazing.
Also, had to chuckle at the Safety-goggle Symetra. Great effort from a beginning cosplayer 😀
I think the Roadhog is the best of them all to be honest.
I tried Cosplay once, I didn’t like it, I didn’t inhale..
Didn’t inhale because it was too tight, or didn’t inhale because the place stank like BO?
Both and a third, too much criticism.
Sometimes Sub-Zero wears a backpack alright?
