This Week In Games: All Of The Tactics

Whether it’s in the form of sports or the form of getting aliens to bugger off Planet Earth, this week is all about the tactics.

Except for that small thing called Forza Horizon 3.

FIFA 17 (PC, PS3, PS4, 360, XBO, Android, iOS)

What is it? The annual football franchise returns.
Should you care? For people who fell off the wagon, The Journey NBA2K-esque revamp of the career mode is a big plus point.

Zheros (PS4)

What is it? The console re-release of a side-scrolling beat-em-up.
Should you care? Not really, although it’s a good excuse to rewatch this.

Mount & Blade: Warband (PS4)

What is it? Lead a medieval faction to become the ruler of Calradia, with first-person battles, a full campaign, political marriages, strategy and more.
Should you care? Mount & Blade has a cult following on Steam for a reason. Give this a chance.

Darkest Dungeon (PS4, Vita)

What is it? A roguelike adventure where you have to manage the psychological effects of dungeon raiding.
Should you care? Absolutely if you have a Vita. One of the better early access titles over the last couple of years.

XCOM 2 (PS4, XBO)

What is it? The console re-release of the turn-based strategy sequel.
Should you care? Yes.

Forza Horizon 3 (PC, XBO)

What is it? Cars. Video Game Australia. Dune buggies. Awesome skyboxes. Lots of racing.
Should you care? Been told by many that it recaptures the spirit of roadtrips really well. Another yes.

Hitman: Episode 5 (PC, PS4, XBO)

What is it? The fifth episode of the ongoing Hitman series.
Should you care? Not all of the Hitman episodes were on point, but Kirk’s loved it overall.

Wand Wars (PS4)

What is it? A “magical sports game” where people ride brooms and cast Polymorph a lot.
Should you care? Imagine a cross between Lethal League and Towerfall. Or Bushido Blade. You get the idea.

Clustertruck (PC)

What is it? It’s a game involving trucks, physics, and things that blow up.
Should you care? I have no idea what to make of this.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (PC, PS4, Vita, XBO, Wii U)

What is it? A funky looking platformer featuring a hair-whipping belly dancer.
Should you care? Depends how badly you want a new platformer.

Lichtspeer (PC, PS4, XBO)

What is it? A funky arcade game about throwing lightspears.
Should you care? I could get on board with this.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice (3DS)

What is it? A 3DS game! Yay!
Should you care? A new Sonic Boom game! Oh God no.

Batman: The Telltale Series (XBO)

What is it? Retail release of Telltale’s Batman series.
Should you care? Maybe wait until the performance is patched.

Arcade Archives Contra (PS4)

What is it? Contra, but on your PS4.
Should you care? I got Double Dragon when it launched on the PS4 … and the performance was weirdly terrible. I’d hold off here.

Unloved (PC)

What is it? A standalone release of a classic Doom 2 mod where people explore endless basements struggling to survive.
Should you care? Could be very, very cool.

Burly Men At Sea (PC)

What is it? A narrative about three men who go in search of adventure.
Should you care? The art style looks fantastic. I’m intrigued.

Quantum Break (PC)

What is it? The Steam release of Remedy’s third-person cover shooter.
Should you care? Towards the end of the year when it’s a bit cheaper.
