This Week In Games: Flashbacks

It’s a special edition of This Week in Games … well, because it’s Tuesday instead of Monday. Public holiday and all that.

That aside, there are still plenty of new titles to capture the imagination this week. Reminiscing with mobsters, remastered Rocksmiths, bastards, vikings, bro shooters and more.

Viking Squad (PC, PS4)

What is it? A “lane-based brawler” with online and local co-op.
Should you care? Got an itch for Castle Crashers but don’t want to play it for the 400th time?

A Bastard’s Tale (PS4)

What is it? A 2D side-scrolling nightmare where you die. A lot.
Should you care? If you like Dark Souls, watch the trailer. It’ll be up your alley.

Warhammer: The End Times, Vermintide (PS4, XBO)

What is it? Think Left 4 Dead meets Warhammer.
Should you care? The loot mechanics might not be for everyone, but Vermintide can be good fun.

Space Hulk Ascension (PS4)

What is it? A digital recreation of the classic board game.
Should you care? The PC version took a few months before it was patched. I’d wait for a review first.

Mafia 3 (PC, PS4, XBO)

What is it? An open-world game set in 1968 where mobsters vie for control of a reimagined New Orleans.
Should you care? It looks good so far. I like how they’re using flashbacks for the story, too.

Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered (PC, PS4, XBO)

What is it? Learn how to play Guitar, with Ubisoft and Rocksmith.
Should you care? You’ll get this as a free update if you already owned Rocksmith. The game is too niche for many though.

Wheels of Aurelia (PS4, XBO, Wii U)

What is it? Console launch of a story-driven game about a road trip through Italy in the 1970’s.
Should you care? Won’t be for everyone.

Rogue Stormers (PS4, XBO)

What is it? A side-scrolling platform shooter with local co-op, plus some RPG and roguelike elements for good measure.
Should you care? It didn’t go gangbusters on Steam, and I can’t see why it would on console.

Aragami (PS4)

What is it? A very funky looking stealth-action game.
Should you care? Maybe. There’s a lot to play right now.

Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today (PS4, XBO)

What is it? The latest point-and-click adventure from German experts Daedalic.
Should you care? Watch some gameplay first. The dialogue seems a bit rubbish.

Syndrome (PC)

What is it? Think System Shock 2.
Should you care? How long can you wait for the System Shock remake?

Atari Flashback Classics Vol. 1 & 2 (PS4, XBO)

What is it? A collection of Atari classics, including Spacewar, Minigolf, Pong, Centipede, Red Baron, and so on.
Should you care? Most will, with good reason.

Paper Mario Colour Splash (Wii U)

What is it? A new Paper Mario, this time on Prism Island.
Should you care? Yeah, you should. Paper Mario games are fun.

Mario Party Star Rush (3DS)

What is it? IT’S A NEW MARIO PARTY
Should you care? IT’S A NEW MARIO PARTY

WRC 6 FIA World Rally Championship (PC, PS4, XBO)

What is it? A licensed rally game from the makers of WRC 5.
Should you care? DiRT Rally is still pretty damn good.

Five Night’s at Freddy’s: Sister Location (PC)

What is it? It’s a new FNaF game, which we don’t know a great deal about.
Should you care? You probably know a kid somewhere that does. Why do kids like these games so much?

The Silver Case (PC)

What is it? A re-release of a 1999 visual novel originally made for the PS1.
Should you care? It’s a visual novel from Suda51. Of course you should care.

Ride 2 (PS4, XBO)

What is it? Motorcycle racing!
Should you care? Very few will.
