What Are You Playing This Weekend?

While I’ve been putting more hours into Destiny over the week, I’ve also started looking into the neat indie MOBA that is Battlerite.

If you’ve been following esports for a long time, it’s hard not to have a soft spot for Bloodline Champions. It was a game that was well before its time, something that knew the MOBA wave was coming well before Dota, League of Legends and just about every other developer did.

But it never really got big. Some of those creators are having another crack at the genre, however, with Battlerite. Heather checked it out briefly a little while ago, and came away with a pretty good impression.

Which is the same one I got last night, about two hours after dropping $US20. There’s Australian servers, rounds only take 2 and a half minutes at the most (maybe 3 if sudden death goes for a really long time, and there’s none of the frustration associated with snowballing that you get from a traditional MOBA.

The camera being attached to mouse movement is a little unusual at first, but it doesn’t take too long to get used to. I think I’d prefer a fixed view, but I’ll investigate that later today.

Another thing I’m keen to check out if I can get hands on: the Call of Duty Infinite Warfare beta. I know it’s popular to shit on Call of Duty in certain gaming circles, but I’ve always enjoyed and appreciated the formula. And having classic Modern Warfare 2 maps — at least that was what being shown at EB Expo — is a huge plus for me, since that was one of my favourites from the franchise (next to the original Modern Warfare and the first Black Ops).

Also, I haven’t forgotten! I’ll join the TAYbie Destiny clan later this week. I rarely log into the Bungie site, that’s all.
