This Week In Games: Time To Hit The Pile Of Shame

The blockbuster season isn’t over yet, but if you just looked at this week you’d think it was. After weeks when there’s been new consoles, new VR headests, new blockbuster franchises and new games, now we have … some pinball, Killing Floor 2 and a handful of PSVR titles.

Yeah, it’s a quiet week.

Marvel Pinball Epic Collection Vol. 1 (PS4, XBO)

What is it? Zen Studios, the masters of pinball, returns.

Should you care? Depends on how much you like pinball, or Marvel.

Killing Floor 2 (PS4)

What is it? Zombie slaughter with friends!

Should you care? Came out of Early Access on PC over the weekend. It’s decent, but it won’t change your mind if you’re not a fan of zombies.

We Sing (PS4, XBO)

What is it? Belt out tunes from Wiz Khalifa, Sia, Bowie and ABBA really badly.

Should you care? Eh. Did you like Singstar?

Alchemic Jousts (PC, PS4)

What is it? A game about using and combining elements to destroy your enemy’s tower.

Should you care? Might be too basic for most people’s tastes.

Depression (Vive)

What is it? A narrative VR game about a man struggling with depression.

Should you care? It’s advertised as an “experience”. Could be interesting to view.

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (PS4, XBO, Wii U)

What is it? Probably the best God of War clone there’s been, if Bayonetta 2 doesn’t count. (It probably doesn’t.)

Should you care? Yeah, why not. Good holiday game if you just want to smash stuff. It’s coming to PC too, but that won’t land until next week.

Space Trucker (PC)

What is it? An odd retro FPS about a Russian space trucker.

Should you care? This looks simultaneously awful and kind of fun. Might be a real good drunken Friday sort of thing.

Holoball (PSVR)

What is it? Basically Shufflepuck Cafe meets TRON meets PSVR and you have an avatar.

Should you care? Got PSVR? Then probably. It works great for these sorts of games.

Laser Disco Defenders (PS4)

What is it? A bullet hell shooter with a 60’s vibe and a camera that seems to never want to stop moving.

Should you care? If the game shudders around as much as it does in the trailer, I think this might be unplayable.

Proton Pulse (PSVR)

What is it? Another Breakout/Shufflepuck Cafe-inspired game.

Should you care? If you like Holoball, you might as well get this too.

Samurai Shodown VI (PS4)

What is it? A PS2 classic fighter returns.

Should you care? Get the right friend or partner and have a blast.

VirZoom Arcade (PSVR)

What is it? A series of mini-games based around the VirZoom exercise bike controller.

Should you care? Take a sweaty exercise like cycling and make it even more strenuous by attaching PSVR to your head while you do it! (So, no.)

Stranded: A Mars Adventure (Vita)

What is it? A pixel art runner/platformer.

Should you care? Seems purpose built for speedrunners. Looks fun for a bit but doesn’t really seem like anything that couldn’t be done on a smartphone, either.

Iron Sea Defenders (Vita)

What is it? Basically naval tower defence.

Should you care? It’s like the Kingdom Origins games. Pretty disappointing for what the Vita is capable of.

Amnesia: Collection (PS4)

What is it? A two-for-one pack with both of the Amnesia games.

Should you care? Do you like watching people shit themselves? Then buy Amnesia! It’s fun for the whole family! (But seriously, great Christmas … gift.)

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

What is it? A new Animal Crossing game, with amiibo support.

Should you care? Depends how hard you want to chill.

So those are the main titles coming out – and yeah, it’s a pretty dry week. Anything catch your interest? Or will you be buying something from Target’s insane sale instead?
