Watch Smash Bros. Melee Players Compete For One Of The Biggest Cash Prizes In The Game’s 15 Year History

This is what it looks like when one incredible Falco player shows no mercy.

DreamHack Winter 2016 is going on right now at the Elmia Convention Center in Jönköping, Sweden, meaning that in addition to tournaments for everything ranging from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Hearthstone, you can also catch some of the best Smash Bros. Melee players in the world duke it out over a $US30,000 ($40,506) prize pool. That’s the biggest non-crowdfunded cash amount for a Smash Bros. Melee tournament ever.

Come for the expert wavedashing and stay to hear the commentators say nonsense things like, “The first time he was being coached by Captain Crunch…”

Cecilia D’Anastasio already explained why Melee was worth celebrating on its 15th birthday earlier this week. Now you can do just that, reminiscing about those quaint times when people used to actually go over one another’s houses to play games together. Watch some of the top talent like Adam “Armada” Lindgren, Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma, Joseph “Mango” Marquez and others battle it out below.

The tournament runs through today and concludes with the top eight tomorrow at 4:00AM AEDT. You can find full details for the event here.
