Although there’s been a short teaser trailer for the Japanese live-action adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s beloved manga, we didn’t actually get to see all that much of the Elric brothers — until now that is, even if they’re hidden in shadows and steam.
An update to Warner Bros. Japan’s website for the film for New Years included the release of the new image, which gives us a frontal look at Ryosuke Yamada as Ed, and our first full look at the movie’s take on his brother Alphonse, transmuted into giant suit of armour after the two brothers attempted to resurrect their dead mother with forbidden alchemy.
But it’s a pretty good live-action recreation (and, if the teaser was anything to go by, an actual physical suit rather than a CGI creation) of Arakawa’s original design, nonetheless. Although this is far from the first attempt to adapt the manga — there are two different, well-known anime adaptations — so far the movie looks like it’s doing a decent job of bringing the steampunk fantasy world of Fullmetal Alchemist to life. The movie is set to hit Japanese theatres in December.

Oh wow, hope they won’t fuck this one up !
Famous last words
theres almost no chance they wont fuck it up, or even if they dont fuck it up it will still suck compared to the FMA:B anime, because how the hell do you squeeze 50 episodes worth of stuff into 1 movie.
You don’t. All indication so far is that the film covers the Liore and Shou Tucker stories and possibly the introduction of Scar.
Ok i havent really been keeping track as i assumed it was going to be a shit movie, so if they are doing that is there plans to make a bunch of movies to tell the whole story? if so that actually makes me a bit more optimistic about the chances of this being good.
Anyone think there is a chance of them getting all the VA’s from FMA:B together to do a english dub? i know it would look weird and out of sync but after watching it a bunch of times over the years it would be even weirder for them to not have the voices i know.
Nothing announced as yet.
It is incredibly rare to dub foreign live-action films, especially something as niche as an adaptation of an anime. Attack on Titan got nothing, despite a wide US cinema run. I wouldn’t count on it.
Well even though i think it probably wont be great, i hope im wrong and that it does well enough they make movies to tell the whole story.
I was actually kind of thinking about the AoT movie when i said it but forgot to check if it got a dub or anything. But if it didnt like you say then yeah i agree there is no chance of this getting one as AoT is probably a bit more known.
Thanks for the answers mate, ill keep an eye on this and hope that it ends up good.
If they do we still have FMA: Brotherhood to fall back on.
they’re basing it off the manga so there’s hope (unlike AoT)
at the very least it will probably be like Warcraft, visually awesome, story might be a bit hectic and rushed
