Thanks to a change in the way Blizzard’s WoW tokens work, players can now farm World of Warcraft gold and apply it towards credit for Overwatch loot boxes, Heroes of the Storm character unlocks and Hearthstone cards.
WoW Tokens are items introduced to World of Warcraft to give players a way to buy subscription time for in-game gold while giving others a legitimate alternative to purchasing gold from third-party websites. The player in need of World of Warcraft currency can buy a WoW Token for $US20 ($26) in cash, then sell it for a fixed amount of gold in the game’s auction house (current asking price on North American servers is 62,393 gold). Players buying these tokens at the auction house would then redeem them for 30 days of game time.
Starting today, players can trade those tokens for $US15 ($20) of Battle.net credit instead of game time (amounts may vary by region). Here’s a video explanation of how that works.
Depending on your World of Warcraft gold farming acumen, this could be a nice way to turn that lazy grinding time into extra in-game items or even full digital Blizzard games. Check out the WoW Token feature page for more info.

Well shit, the half a million gold sitting on my old account may actually find a purpose now. Huh
you can quite literally do one order hall campaign for over 1K gold. getting gold isn’t that hard tbh
it’s only really farming because the situation currently is beyond stupid (last looked the US prices for tokens was 70K and climbing). I imagine it will die down in a month or two
maybe, there were no tokens available for purchase this morning. i expect the demand for these now you can get credit will outweight the supply
And its gone.
Currently no tokens available on US, guess everyone with spare gold hit the AH. Was looking forward to buying Overwatch with some of the two million gold I’ve accumulated.
Tokens are currently sold out O_o.. (am somewhat glad I had 10 prebought…the somewhat bit due to the below)
Annoyingly Australia tax is alive and well.. that you get $15US balance bit…not if you’re Australian..then you can take your $17 Aus and like it (current exchange pegs $15US at $19.63Aus).
Then you can use that $17Aus to buy a $40US game for $70Aus…. So rather than say 2.66 tokens getting you a copy of overwatch it suddenly becomes 4.12 tokens due to being screwed on both ends…
On the one hand I’m happy with the ‘free’ battlenet balance that’s actually pretty great if they work out the various issues that have and will pop up…. I’m still pissed that once again for no apparent reason we get screwed because we don’t live in the US, they already had the apparently mandatory Australia tax on their games…would have been nice if they just left it at that :/
Interestingly the US prices on tokens went from 58k gold to 73k gold in about 6 hours. (and the video showed 75K)…. *equip tin foil hat* its a price fixing scam!
At least I am virtually $500 richer.
Makes raiding sadder if you equate repair bills/gears/enchants gold expenses to real life money *cry*.
