Destiny 2 is coming to PC, and as you may expect, this version will give you far more of those sweet, sweet frames than the PS4 and Xbox One versions. It will also run on Blizzard’s Battle.net rather than Steam or another PC distribution service, which is an interesting choice.
First, via Bungie, here’s what the PC version of Destiny 2 offers:
- 4k Resolution Support (3820×2160)
- Uncapped framerate
- Full mouse and keyboard support with custom key mapping
- Text chat
- Adjustable Field of View
- Detailed PC settings screen
- 21:9 monitor support
Bungie hasn’t yet said anything about cross-play between platforms, although I can’t imagine that happening for PVP simply because PC players would have an unfair advantage in the Crucible.
As for Battle.net — which we thought had gotten a name change but Blizzard is apparently still calling Battle.net? — you’ll be able to play Destiny 2 just like you would StarCraft or Heroes of the Storm. Says Blizzard: “Destiny 2 will be integrated into many of Blizzard’s existing social features — you’ll be able to chat with friends playing Destiny 2 the same way you already can for Blizzard games. Players will also be able to add friends and form parties the same way Blizzard gamers can. And, you’ll see a Destiny 2 status icon by your friends who are playing Destiny 2 the same way you do for friends playing StarCraft II, Diablo III, WoW, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, and Overwatch.”

Not a fan of the Battlenet thing. I have no issue with Battlenet and actually like it but its for Blizzard games. If they are going to put Destiny 2 on it then what is to stop Activision from moving all the CoDs and then all their other published games? Then trying to compete with Uplay, Origin and Steam?
That might just be the plan. I can developers and publishers slowly ending their dependence on Valve (a competitor ) and steam.
meh I’d start worrying when they actually put a store on the Bnet application.
right now (to me anyway) it makes a lot of sense to put Destiny on there since it means Bungie has one less area they need to focus in
yeah right now the store that is on the battle.net launcher is just purely for blizzard games and micro transactions. I think the main reason why its going on Battle.net though is because it will likely piggyback of blizzards servers. I mean Blizzard already has servers located all around the world and has state of the art situation room to control everything. it makes perfect sense
well they aren’t using Blizzard servers for the game but they are using Blizzard servers for the social and authentication functionality… which is why to me it makes sense

Blizzard has a robust world wide architecture, both text and voice chat from the application is actually robust and the login system is 2FA enabled. not to mention they have the added (unfortunate) experience of having suffered numerous ddos attacks
It’s mainly going to used to compensate for the lack of proper party system and they cbf to make one internally.
HotS party system is pretty great.
I imagine this is a test run, and if the sales are good they’ll do exactly what you are suggesting.
what’s wrong with that, every publisher is pretty much going to have a launcher and sell all of their games on it eventually anyway
Exactly, if a company can directly distribute to their customer base at full recommended retail price why wouldn’t they?
Because Battlenet is Blizzards baby. Do you really want to see it full of 30 CoD games? Maybe you do, I certainly dont. Get Activision to have their own independent platform.
Activision is Blizzard so it is their platform to do as they wish.
i’m not too worried as long as they have basic hiding/sorting, the interface will probably have to change if blizzard themselves release another couple of games anyway
Given that distributing via Steam means giving a sizeable cut of every sale to Valve, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re considering distributing more of their games via Battle.net. It makes more sense than creating parallel infrastructure and getting customers to install two Activision launchers.
With Destiny 2 added, that’s two first person shooters available to purchase through the service. If they’re successful, I wouldn’t be surprised if this year’s or next year’s Call of Duty is available through the service.
They might go through an intermediate step though, such as continuing to sell the game on Steam but require a Battle.net account to play multi-player.
Steam has become the trashcan full of shovelware. There are still a few AAA games and a few gems in there, but they either need to clean up their act or they will become slowly irrelevant. It’s a real shame because I have over 500 games in Steam …. but it has become a shadow of its former self.
yeah the amount of pure crap thats been added to steam over the last couple years is extremely terrible. just look at the new releases tab and if its not asset flips, its porn novels. every now and then there might be gem in there but its like finding a needle in a haystack
Cant wait to Captain America fools with my Titan and Poledancer my way to victory.
Any news on the fps for PS4?
There is not any confirmation but it sounds like from people who have played on console version at the event that it is 30 FPS. Destiny 2 for PC is the only version confirmed to run 60+ FPS at present.
Wouldn’t surprise me if you can get 60 fps on the Pro, though.
Has anyone actually done that yet with a AAA game? 30fps on Standard and 60fps on the Pro?
One I know of is FFXV
From what I understand from reading this, The Surge does. As well as Rise of the Tomb Raider and Nioh, if I’m reading it correctly? Apparently some games give you a choice between higher resolution or better frame rate on Pro.

The Last of Us actually does support 60 fps on the pro… just not at 4k.
I feel like someone having 60 fps on the Pro would have to much of an advantage versing 30 fps on standard PS4, controls would be a lot more responsive with 60 fps.
Bungie have mentioned this in a response to Destiny 1. In an online multi game it would give too much advantage, which would matter when it came to pvp/
S C O R P I O
If Xbox One has 30fps then Scorpio will have 30 as well, unless they have separate online servers etc.
Have fun with the greedy, money grabbing cross platform promotions. This is clear indication that blizzard is completely taken over by Activistion. So glad i stopped buying their products after the trash that was diablo 3.
You do realize the point of a buisness is to make money? they dont pay their employees with hugs and kisses.
I see a Springfield v Shelbyville kind of thing in the future between Overwatch and Destiny 2’s playerbases.
Steal their lemon tree, boy!
nah wont happen unless overwatch gets its on story mode.
I needed a laugh today, Thanks!
My question is the platform the only thing being leveraged… or have they been leveraging the decade plus experience if Blizzard to fix destiny issues and lackluster online experiences.
Funny enough they did this a while back with the first game, this might’ve created a better dialogue between Bungie and Blizzard which meant putting it on battle.net will make more sense in the long run 🙂
