Blizzard Teases New Lore Surrounding Overwatch’s Enigmatic Doomfist

An update on Blizzard’s Overwatch blog adds more more details about Doomfist, long suspected to be the game’s next hero.

Pointing to an “incident at Helix Security International’s classified maximum security installation,” the post states, “it can now be confirmed that what occurred was an attack by the Talon organisation with the express purpose of freeing one man: Akande Ogundimu, better known as Doomfist.”

The lore dump goes on:

It began in the early hours of the morning, when an unidentified aircraft approached the facility. Security initially reported that the craft had no passengers on board, based on radar scans. The craft passed through the range of the installation’s defence systems without incident, leading some to believe that Talon has moles within Helix. Video surveillance from within the compound revealed a black shadowy figure emerging from the craft and descending upon the prison grounds. The unidentified assailant easily overcame the Helix security agents, leaving over a dozen dead. Medical records of the casualties reveal injuries and cellular degeneration matching other incidents involving the mercenary known as the Reaper, all but confirming the incursion as a Talon attack.

Blizzard Teases New Lore Surrounding Overwatch’s Enigmatic Doomfist

Surfacing as far back as February, when fans unearthed notes in one of the game’s patches that further allude to the Doomfist Gauntlet that has cropped up throughout the game’s scattered lore, fans have more or less willed the character into existence, refusing to let the cagey drip-drip of info from Blizzard stop them.

Winston allegedly killed a Doomfist at one point (the name doubles as a title) and Widowmaker once tried to steal the gauntlet. Also, Terry Crews really wants to voice the character.

Some suspect that he’s gonna be a playable hero soon, but he’s technically been present in the game since day one.”]

So what exactly does this mean? Is Doomfist a hero that will be officially introduced in the coming months? Nobody knows, but that won’t stop fans from speculating and unearthing every related clue as to what Blizzards ultimate plans are. The game’s subreddit, is just getting warmed up.
