When it was first announced, we were unsure what to make of Netflix’s latest venture being a resurrection of Stretch Armstrong – and not just that, a resurrection of the toy classic as a new superhero squad of elongated teenage misfits. Now we have our first look at Stretch Armstrong and his, err… Flex Fighters in action, and it isn’t bad.

It looks pretty serviceable as a superhero show – although trying to act like “teens who need to figure out if they can balance school life and superhero life!” is a particularly original concept in 2017 is a bit of a stretch, even for a show explicitly about things that stretch. But there are some cool designs in there – especially in among the villains – even if it’s a bit weird to see Stretch Armstrong as a vaguely Blue-Beetle-looking teenager instead of a chiselled body-builder type.
What stands out most about Flex Fighters though is its frankly insane voice cast – arguably filled with more talent than a show about stretchy teenagers probably should. Stephen Yeun! Felicia Day! A veritable Star Trek reunion in the form of Wil Wheaton, Kate Mulgrew and Walter Koenig! That alone is enough to make it worth checking out for an episode or two.
Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters hits Netflix for a 26-episode run later this year.
