It’s been trendy to hate on BOTW recently. Many forum dwellers who claim that the world is big, but empty and pointless. Just korok seeds and shrines. That fighting is always a “net loss”, and that game recycles too much of its core gameplay.
Honestly, I’ll never understand this line of thinking. BOTW is the only game I’ve ever played where exploration was always worthwhile. Whether I found a korok puzzle, a hidden shrine, a tower, a sunken chest, a unique moblin camp, a quest, a pack of horses, or just an amazing view, literally every single time I wandered off in my own direction, I had a great time doing so. The “reward” wasn’t always loot… but the experience in itself.
In my mind, BOTW really is the best Zelda yet. Even better than LTTP and OOT. Not only that, I believe it’s superior than other all time great games, like Skyrim and The Witcher 3, with perhaps only Deus Ex and Morrowind giving it a run for its money as the best GOAT.
It’s been many years since I’ve played a game as interesting and rewarding as BOTW. It’s been a great reminder on just how incredible a medium video games can be.
BOTW is interesting because I played it at a time when I felt like I had to an extent ‘grown out’ of games. While I used to get absolutely absorbed by games series Mario and Zelda, more recently I’d play the games once and think they were ‘too shallow’ or alternatively ‘not very fun’ and barely touch them again. But BOTW was different – for the first time in years I got goosebumps playing a game, and loved the world. I even stopped playing DoTA for a while 😮
Honestly it was the first video game in years that I had got absolutely hooked on and for that it deserves all the praise it can get. Ofc I still think Twilight Princess is better 😉
So people aren’t allowed to not like the game?
Sure they can. Who said they can’t?
This is about people jumping on a bandwagon because of others or to be different or get attention or stand out. 99% who have probably never even played it.
How can you accurately say that though. Why does it matter if someone does not like the game? I know some people don’t like WoW. But I couldn’t care less. I still play it anyway. Stop worrying about what others think of something you obviously enjoy.
Because the whole comment chain was based on people hating on it because it’s trendy? It’s a stupid thing to do but whatever, I don’t really care. I played the game, thought it was the bee’s knee’s and got on with life.
Again. How can you accurately proclaim something like that? You are making an assumption in an attempt to deligitimize someones opinion because it is not the same as yours.
I didn’t, another poster did. I merely replied based on his supposition.
Ah my mistake. Apologies 🙂
Role-Playing Game of the Year:
NierR: Automata ???
It’s a great game … but Role-Playing Game of the Year???
Still not better the oblivion imo
Fuck no.
Wow, Forza 7 was robbed.
Lol……no it didn’t. If not for Mario Kart, GT Sport would have eaten it too.
Forza 7 is gag worthy, beautiful, but they’ve steadily gotten worse from Forza 5. They’re releasing because they’re trying to get more money rather than build a better product. I’m glad they didn’t win anything, they need to be kicked down a level and build something the fans need rather than the investors.
Good to see Senua win a category! Still can’t believe that Hellblade was not nominated for the Sound Design award though, other than it would have had no genuine competition.
BOTW is the first game in a long time that made me want to delay the inevitable… Finishing the game.
I did everything I could think of before heading to the final boss (including circumnavigating the entire map, which I HIGHLY recommend). This game deserves all the accolades it receives. It’ll be a long time till we see a worthy opponent to its firmly established Adventure / Exploration / I wonder if I can do this? Crown.
I don’t like Zelda games. They never grabbed me. But congrats none the less to the devs for their hard work being rewarded.
Mario got robbed (AGAIN!).
