Epic just announced that Fortnite: Battle Royale is coming to Android and iOS.
It’s not a weird conversion, or downsized experience either. Epic says “Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac. Same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates.”
There’s even talk of letting mobile players on different platforms play against each other, and against people playing on every system except Xbox:
In partnership with our friends at Sony, Fortnite Battle Royale will support Cross Play and Cross Progression between PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, iOS and eventually Android. This means players across devices can squad up with friends and play together.
There’s a roll-out on iOS starting on Monday (you can sign up here), and Android owners, you know what’s coming: “Support for Android will be coming in the next few months.”

Holy shit
You’d have to be confident on your abilities.
Also, what the fuck is it with Sony and Microsoft both being unwilling to play cross-platform? It’s no Xbox here and no Playstation on Sea of Thieves.
Well Sea of Thieves is made by MS, so there won’t be a Playstation version to play with cross-platform anyway…
They only ever want it when it benefits them more to do it.
They been doing the back and forth for years.
Yeah, Sony was all about the idea when Ps3 was behind.
Not that two wrongs make a right, but everytime you see fanbois throwing shade at each other you have to wander how selective everyone’s memory is.
Cross console play would be great, but I doubt it will ever be a standardised feature.
Meh. We need a switch version first.
I’d bet my house on that coming this year.
Doubt it.
Why? Similar architecture to phones, but more capable sustained performance, and real, physical controls.
You’d be nuts to not make the most money out of that port job as possible.
Gyro aiming would be a great addition too.
Love me some gyro aiming! I bought doom for switch the day that patch dropped, and it’s hands-down my favourite version since i haaate standard gamepad controls for fps.
While it is true that it is essentially a tablet with custom software, I haven’t seen anything that would lead me to believe that the Switch is much better than an equivalent tablet.
Yeah except phones have 4G, so you can actually play Fortnite on the go. You could also do that with the switch but would need to tether stuff. You could also play it at home but why would you? When most people have multiple consoles.
Why the switch didnt ship with 4G Capability is beyond me. It would have been a day 1 purchase for sure.
I would use tethering over having second sim any day. It’s entirely pointless in this age of wireless hotspots to need multiple network connections.
Also, shipping a SKU with a modem built in is weighed with country-specific certification requirements and telco bullshit.
How many devices do you need?
My phone can serve my laptop, tablet, switch, 3ds, or vita. Every time I’m out i have my phone, so why would anything else need its own network connectivity?
Besides, fortnite wouldn’t have to operate any differently to splatoon ehich seems to be selling well enough without 4g. And 90% of my switch gaming is done as a home-bound handheld where i can grind a jrpg or casual MP while watching TV. That was the best thing about the wii u and is something i dearly miss abput monster hunter world.

How do you make your ludicrously popular light weight game even more popular? Port it to the fastest selling console (which is becoming notorious for ports anyway).
