So the faster your framerate, the faster you move. Which is fine, whatever in a singleplayer game like Bethesda are used to making, but not fine for a multiplayer-only release like Fallout 76, where changing a player’s framerate is as easy as entering a few lines of code.
By default, the Fallout 76 beta‘s framerate is locked down, and there’s no way in the settings to change that. But on the PC version, users have found that by simply changing a few lines in the game’s .ini file — just like you can in Bethesda’s other games like Skyrim — you can speed up the framerate and at the same time speed up the rest of the physics in the game up as well.
In singleplayer games this is just a way to pass the time or make novelty videos, but in a multiplayer experience, having different players moving at different speeds is an absolute disaster.
fallout 76’s physics system is tied to it’s framerate
including your walk speedso you can literally outrun most enemies by looking at the groundhttps://t.co/aYXiIJs6l7

Bethesda are aware of the issue, but told Polygon “a fix won’t be out until the game launches.”
Good luck until then, PC gamers.
Between this and the Bethesda warned us “we’re opening everyone up to all new spectacular issues none of us have encountered” when this beta kicked off.

This has been the same in literally every Bethesda game so far. They need to fix/update that goddamn engine.
This has been a problem with every Bethesda game since Oblivion. The engine is shit and needs to be retired.
It amazes me Bethesda still get a pass for this kind of stuff.
76 just perpetually looks worse and worse. Watched a few streams; I couldn’t understand how they were putting out what feels like a design pitch rather than a completed game and for full AAA pricing too. Bethesda is a joke these days.
With all it’s issues, the PC version seems like it would be a slow-motion train wreck if only our frame rate wasn’t so high…
Usually I try to make light of such situations but I’m putting my massive sense of humour aside for a moment.
Real talk.
Is Bethesda actively trying to have the record for worse game release, ever?
I’m starting to hope this is all just a bad idea for a PR stunt. If it isn’t, then any competency Bethesda might have had is clearly now gone.
the ebst thing about this is that this game is going to be a massive, ugly buggy mess the likes of which has been seen before in any BGS title and for once there will be no “mods will fix it” for a very very very long time
Actually someone managed to unpack some files and modify (fix) the UI using FO4’s mod tools. While it’s great that people *can* fix Bethesda’s mess, it has some pretty bad implications.
I’d like to think there will be anti cheat measures locking down files but wouldn’t be surprised if it goes too far and leaves us unable to even do things like turn off DoF or Mouse Smoothing via the .ini
if it works like any other mmo, everything bar the models and textures should be server based. so things like AI and other gameplay systems, also the reason why you only 400lb storage limit in the stash.
Then again this BGS, well the austin offshoot so it will more than likely just be so easy to hack and destroy
If I ever buy this game it won’t be until months after release. They need time to fix all the bugs….and I also want to see how hacking pans out. Waiting for private servers might be the best bet, then I can just play it as single player or with a couple friends.
Game running too fast? No problem.
