Today at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, Respawn Entertainment, makers of Apex Legends and Titanfall, showed off their next game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
The game will star Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66 and the destruction of the Jedi Order. Monaghan is best known for his roles in Gotham and Shameless.
During the panel, Respawn Entertainment revealed more details about the upcoming game. Cal is hiding from the Empire after the fall of the Jedi and is working as a salvager on a new Star Wars planet named Braka. He will have a small droid companion with him, BD-1. Cal will also have a former Jedi Knight as his mentor and friend. She is being played by actress Debra Wilson.
Respawn Entertainment wants a combat system that is easy to pick up, but that will also have “a lot of depth to it.” It was described as “thoughtful combat.” Players will have to use all of their abilities and moves to succeed in combat, according to Respawn Entertainment.
The game will introduce many new planets and characters into the Star Wars universe. Respawn has worked closely with Disney and Lucasfilm. One example that was given is the new Purge Troopers, a new melee-focused variant of Stormtroopers that are specifically created to hunt down Jedi who survived Order 66.
According to Respawn, these troopers have actually appeared in Star Wars comics already and will also appear in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Before the event, EA revealed the game would be singleplayer only, will not contain any microtransactions and would have no loot boxes. This was reconfirmed during the panel by Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella. The game is also being built in Unreal Engine 4.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15, 2019.

Holy fucking shit! Is Cameron Monaghan the best actor in the business or what?
Definitely one of the best working today thats for sure.
Hmm don’t love the “mentor” trope. Do love the….everything else.
It’s starwars. From the ground up it’s trope city. It’s how it’s used that matters.
It’s not exactly an easy trope to shed when talking about Jedi though, it’s the foundation of their design.
How else would a young padawan learn to use the force?
A different way? The girl from the new ones seemed to manage just fine?
Not sure if you watched the movies, she did train with Luke.
She foughtt a sith pretty capably having never met Luke? Why are we discussing this….
At first it looked like it might be abit like freespace but then after the wall running and ledge grab snippet makes it looks like the gameplay will be like Uncharted which is ultimately meh tier…..
“which is ultimately meh tier”
Wow, you don’t know too much about gaming, huh kid? Either that or just a moron.
Wow, condescending much?
There are good things about Uncharted but the gameplay isn’t really one of them – uninspired cover shooting and absolutely trivial platforming. I think “meh” is about right.
Exactly right, the story telling is top notch.
But…but…big set pieces and graphics….
It’s hard to get a feel for what this really is just from the reveal, I think I’ll wait on some gameplay before making any judgements. I admit I was really hoping for an RPG so there’s a tinge of disappointment here.
I’m with you there. But at this point, I will settle for a good single player SW game that actually makes it to release. Any genre, pretty much any story. Baby steps 🙂
Besides, I can roleplay anything, in my head. And do.
I’ll reserve judgement until some actual gameplay footage…
Although Monaghan will always be Ian Ghallager to me haha
i don’t understand these trailers. It literally told us all NOTHING about the actual game
Singleplayer with no microtransactions or loot boxes is enough to at least have me interested at this point, which is as much a sad indictment of the current state of the industry as anything else. Will wait to see some actual gameplay before getting too excited.
Also not a fan of the music. It sounds like they couldn’t really be bothered so they just threw Star Wars, the Dark Knight trilogy and the Avengers into a blender and called it good.
With any luck, EA will actually get around to releasing this game.
Me: don’t get excited it’s a game from EA they will find someway to ruin it.
Also me: ZOMG more wall running by Respawn, shut up and take my money.
I’ll be tickled if the most successful game EA make under their exclusive Star Wars license is the only one NOT in their over-hyped Frostbite engine.
If they threw in Jedi-Outcast/Academy style multiplayer, this’d be a sure sell.
No gameplay=no deal.
Show us some gameplay!
As far as CG trailers go it honestly looks a bit crummy. Why wouldn’t you show some gameplay if you didn’t want to make a splash with it. I could really do without another protagonist harking his emotions to the wind. Give me 1313 already : /
We all want 1313 but that’s no reason to unfairly let out your frustration on this trailer.
I have to agree. The game seems promising on paper, but that trailer didn’t really do it for me (something about it, in places, looked kind of clunky and old). I much prefer it when they show gameplay so that you know exactly what to expect.
So far this is just the promise of something good. When it comes to this industry, I gave up believing in promises a long time ago. Besides, this is EA … when have they not f**ked something up? I’ll believe it when I see it and not a moment before.
I expect we’ll see some game play at E3. I’ll remain cautiously optimistic, although I’m getting a 1313 vibe.
No micro-transactions? No loot-boxes? Single player, honest? Are we SURE this is an EA game?
Pending actual gameplay footage, this looks so far like it might:
a) not suck
b) make it all the way to release.
I know the bar for new SW content is low, but they have indeed cleared it so far.
How much will we shit ourselves when we find out most of that wasn’t actually pre-rendered…
To be frank, it looks and sounds shit.
If it did not have the Star Wars name associated to it that trailer would be crucified.
Would not surprise me if Respawn were coaxed into EA to quickly putting that trailer together so they could begin marketing the game
Which trailer did you watch? This game has clearly been in development for a while
Not questioning the development of the game, only the cinematic trailer which to me is sub-standard in rendering quality.
Spongy enemies always ruined light saber games for me. The only time it felt good to me was in Jedi Knight with dismemberment turned on.
I get the feeling this game is going more for the swinging a wet noodle around than a real lightsaber.
Unless it’s secretly Sekiro with a lightsaber you’re probably right. I’m hoping this game works out well but it looks like they’ve already made the mistake of having you play as a Jedi. Deathtroopers? Let me guess, there’s a flamethrower, a stick, a machine gun and a blaster and none of them are satisfying to beat after the first two encounters. At some point they’ll get shields so they take ten hits to kill. That’s sort of the only way to progress when you’re talking about playing as a Jedi.
I want the game to be good but Star Wars is a really hard thing to work with. History has shown it’s a challenge even when it’s a few great ideas being worked on by seasoned developers.
So yet another story set in the prequel – OT era? We already had an entire cartoon series exploring what that was like for Jedi, as well as (now non canon) games like The Force Unleashed. What was the point of Disney even making a sequel era if they’re not going to set any expanded media there? Also set protagonist and what looks like a linear story don’t really excite me when it comes to Star Wars. I want to make my own Jedi/Sith, damn it.
Do people here need a bungee cord to save them after jumping to conclusions?
“bUt WhErE’s ThE gAmEpLaY rEeEe”
Bet you weren’t saying this shit when TLOU2 reveal trailer made its debut at E3.
“This game will be a disappointment. It looks shit. etc etc”
I understand many of you have been burned by EA. But give Respawn the benefit of the doubt, jfc…
Trailer looks shit as far as cgi trailers go, it’s a new star wars game which has had a bad history recently and its published by ea. I’m still feeling good about it though.
Tlou 2 is completely different as its a sequel made by a company with an amazing track record and it was easy to assume the engine would be the same. Ree33333eeeee
It wasn’t a cgi trailer though. It’s in engine.
It’d pretty much have to be since release is in 7 months, give or take. If they couldn’t do an ‘in engine’ trailer at this point, I’d be super sceptical about the release date 🙂
Imaging, just imagine for a second if ……. if some how this will announced as an EPIC store exclusive.
(i know EA has origin and all that stuff)
Respawn Entertainment is cool. The first Titanfall had great ideas and the second Titanfall was an awesome game. I’ve heard good things about Apex Legends as well.
I am a little nervous about EA Games being involved in this (I know they have to be, since they have the license for Star Wars games) but hopefully this will turn out to be a great title.
I don’t want to sound like a pessimist, but I feel like we might get burned from this… the last single player ‘Jedi’ game I played was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and despite all the hype, that game was bloody terrible.
Hmmmm… no platforms mentioned? Cross-gen title?
Single player, no lootboxes, no microtransactions and made by EA
Yeah I still don’t trust them
