Modern Warfare 2 Selling Just Fine On PC

Some popular things are popular for a reason. They are good.

Mysterious New 2K Games Shooter Teased By Spike [Updated]

When I saw the picture of Dubai, so was I (I have a huge non-sexual Dubai fetish). But, it simply looks like another browned-out shooter in a city.

LunchTimeWaster: I Just Headshot A Sheep

Don’t Play it! It is far too addictive. I didn’t get much exam study done with this one

A Letter From Michael Atkinson

It is finally good to hear a well-reasoned article by Michael Atkinson. Yes, we know he does sensationalize some times (most recently with Modern Warfare 2 about getting points for killing civilians in the massacre level, which is a blatant lie), but heck, all politicians do that and it is to be expected.

Most of his points are valid, and do make logical sense, the problem is, however, is the argument that “Access to electronic games, once in the home, cannot be policed and therefore the games are easily accessible to children. If adults think they can devise a lock-out system to defeat children, tell ‘em they’re dreaming.”

I don’t need to emphasize the obvious implications of this statement with reference to movies, alcohol, and guns (Look at Foxtel’s way you can buy Adult footage on demand) as I’m sure someone here has already said it.

Heck, we may not agree with it, but its good that he’s coming up with some arguments and reason behind it, instead of blatantly shutting it down.

Cigarettes and Alcohol are very bad examples. People use these when arguing about the legalisation of weed. Just because Cigarettes are legal, if weed is safer, it should be legal.

The problem with banning addictive goods that have already been publicly available is that the effects of an instant ban can often be more detrimental than a gradual weening off. Take cigarettes for example, if they were made illegal tomorrow, a huge black market for them would exist. Prices would rise, and addicts would have to commit crime to be able to afford it. You can say the same about illegal things, but there isn’t that initial legal addiction that occurs.

Was Modern Warfare 2 Really The "Biggest Launch In History"?

That kind of information would be impossible to access. Sure, every company would want to work on the percentage return on investment, but the input costs of businesses is private data that no-one would want to release.

The idea of highest gross data would be to gauge how much people are willing to part with their money. The great example here is movies. Loads of people are willing to spend a little bit of money to see a good movie. For a good video game, loads of people need to spend lots of money.

Heck, while we’re at it, shouldn’t we really be taking into account the average enjoyment of the consumer? What about the money they spend in electricity playing games?

Come on, seriously?

BlizzCon 2010: Vegas, Baby

They might have a release date for the Starcraft 2 beta by then!

MAG's Fourth Beta Lets You Hear Enemy Comms

I’m guessing your team-mates voices are loud and clear as if speaking to them over a microphone, but then you would hear the enemies background chatter as a distant sound-effect at first, becoming louder. Not sure how loud it would be if you were standing right next to them, though.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Review

I love that analogy in the last paragraph. Wonderful

Atkinson "Welcomes" Gamers 4 Croydon Election Challenge

First off, no point really posting here. Not going to be heard by anyone that matters.

Second, the games are made in Japan, for Japan, and to stay in Japan only (Rapelay). I don’t want that in Australia, and the entire Western World would probably be happy to see that not in development.

Third, he talks about “blowing themselves up, torturing human figures… killing people and taking drugs to improve their sporting prowess.” These are all aspects of games that have been around for ages in M and MA15+ games. GTA the prime example for blowing stuff up and toturing, and take an old classic like Max Payne which you use painkillers to heal.

I think people would be more willing to accept the ban on an R18+ game if the argument put forward by opponents had some merit and substance behind it, instead of scaremongering.

Is Rockstar Teasing Next GTA Location?

Ahhh, Rockstar is so good at making people talk about nothing.

Hey Blizzard, What's It Like To Make Non-WarCraft Games?

Wasn’t the beta for SC2 meant to be coming out 2 months ago?

And the 1.13 patch for Diablo 2 coming out 5 months ago?

Modern Warfare 2's Third Person Mode Is No Rumour

Well, everyone would probably use it anyway. The ability to see around corners will make it very luck based as to who plays hide and seek

Bargain Hunter: Real DJ Heroes Don't Sit

Doesn’t the turntable stick to anything else?

Leaked Left 4 Dead 2 Trailer Full Of Joy, Gore

Ahh well, importing. The government won’t get any revenue from the taxes that would be paid by Australian Publishers, Retailers, or us through the GST.

And, with the great exchange rate at the moment, it’s probably cheaper to import anyway!

Bargain Hunter: Wii Bundle Madness

Great deals. Probably because of the great AUD at the moment

WIN! A Badass Borderlands Xbox 360 Prize Pack

The Pun Gun:

This gun is unlike anything seen before. Not only does it shoot completely random items, but it also has a computerised voice which says a pun in response to whatever it is being shot.

In testing, it has shot bee’s at the enemy, with the voice telling the enemy to “Buzz off.” After the enemy was swarmed by the bee’s, the voice then had to rub it in by stating “Oh, I think he’s a bit stung after that”

Brand-X Memory Units Won't Work In Next 360 Update

It says unauthorised. So I’m guessing anything that is “official” will be fine

Grand Theft Auto IV Is On Demand

If you’re on a Telstra phone line, look into the AAPT bundle with home phone and unlimited downloads from 8pm to 8am (and yes, it’s actually unlimited, not like Telstra calls their plans “Unlimited Pro”)

Unfortunately I’m on an Optus phone line so cant get it :(

FIFA 10 Is The Fastest Selling Sports Game Ever

Wow. Impressive.

Normally I’m a FIFA whore and get it the first day it comes out. Damn uni’s got me too busy…

FIFA 10 Review: 30-Yard Screamer

Well, only one thing that was “hated” which, as stated in the opening paragraph, doesn’t count for squat, I think EA are onto a winner.

Will pick my own copy up soon. Can’t wait to get into it
