A Letter From Michael Atkinson
November 16th, 2009 at 4:17 PMlol what is “cruel sex”, exactly? Anything that doesn’t coincide with his idea of “a good time”? I guess it’s only the missionary position once a month for the old Atkinsons.
A Letter From Michael Atkinson
November 16th, 2009 at 3:18 PM“I believe the repeated act of killing a computer-generated person or creature desensitises them to violence. To my mind, a child being able to watch depraved sex and extreme violence in a movie is damaging to the child, but the child’s participating (sic) in depraved sex and extreme violence in a computer game is worse.”
Man, isn’t that what an R18+ rating would prevent? Man. MAN.
I agree with what Dan Houser, I think it was, said the other day, about it being so frustrating and hypocritical that the movie industry is pretty much exempt from the same criticism that the game industry is now under.
What Modern Warfare 2 Boycotters Are Playing
November 13th, 2009 at 2:27 PMlol cool filename, Kotaku. Getting your content from 4chan again?
More Bang For Your Buck
November 13th, 2009 at 1:56 PMSo if that’s $0.20 per hour for MW2, that means you spend… four hours in the campaign and 296 in multiplayer?
Report: Xbox Live Bannings Upwards Of One Million
November 12th, 2009 at 3:29 PMI think that’s precisely the issue as these recent bannings go far behind the EULA you agree to when signing up for Xbox Live.
Report: Xbox Live Bannings Upwards Of One Million
November 12th, 2009 at 12:47 PMPerhaps not the best idea. Pirates don’t just pirate exclusively, they still purchase games and downloadable content/XBLA games. The latest wave of bans don’t just lock out consoles from accessing Live, they also remove functionality that is independent from Live. You can’t install games to the HDD and your profile and game saves are corrupted. One million customers are still one million customers, you’re just discouraging them from buying the few games that they would actually legitimately purchase. I’ve got a feeling this is going to be the catalyst for the development of PSP-style CFW and the cracking of the 360’s signed content.
Also, my sympathies go to any poor souls who were caught up in the mass of false positives or anyone who flashed their console so that they could play legitimate backups of their own games (and I’m sure there are plenty of these people considering there have been a multitude of government and media-sponsored investigations into the 360’s habit of scratching games).
Explore The Tender Side Of Manhood With Dragon Age
November 10th, 2009 at 5:53 PMI’d watch it but I don’t want to spoil myself.
OH ZEVRAN~
Vid Yanked Off Infinity Ward Channel — On Modder's Takedown Notice
November 10th, 2009 at 5:49 PMGee, I’m sure the guys will feel bad about receiving that email from fourtwozero. That’s like being told off by the kid who smears dog poop on the playground swing seats.
Reader Review: Torchlight
November 10th, 2009 at 5:48 PMIt has modding tools. Just add a cone-shaped mesh to the top of your horsies.
Modern Warfare 2: 360 Vs PS3 (Part II)
November 10th, 2009 at 5:45 PMI AM OUTRAGED/IMPRESSED THAT MY CONSOLE OF CHOICE HAS SUPERIOR/INFERIOR BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST.
This comes as a great blow/benefit to me as for some reason my $750-4000 HDTV or second-hand CRT doesn’t have any options to change these settings independently.
Left 4 Dead Adds 4v4 Competitive Matchmaking, Demo Expands
November 10th, 2009 at 5:40 PMSo, is this Survivors vs survivors? Because the first thing I think of when someone says “4v4 competitive” in L4D is Versus.
Borderlands' Undead DLC Coming Nov. 24
November 10th, 2009 at 11:46 AMOr maybe they just can’t be bothered to reveal anything about it. Seems to fit their blase attitude towards the PC port.
Also, “carniverous Were-Skags”? I have yet to meet a Skag of any sort that did not have a preference for meat.
Russia Gets A Whole Lot Bleaker In Metro 2033
November 4th, 2009 at 1:58 AMI fear the future in which every single action role-playing game set in the wake of a disaster is likened to Fallout 3.
Dragon Age Is "The Old Shit And The New Shit"
November 4th, 2009 at 1:56 AMPlease stop saying “shit”, Mister Bioware Man. They remind me of Vanilla Ice, trying to stay cool and hip to the youth in an industry in which they can never be considered so.
What's Cut From Aussie Left 4 Dead 2, And How To Uncut It
November 3rd, 2009 at 2:49 PMExactly, it’s just an armored infected, not that hard to replace. A civilian wearing kevlar and a helmet.
Online Status Check: Borderlands
October 25th, 2009 at 3:17 AMSo, anyone worked out yet why Australia is getting a “low violence” version of Borderlands? And what exactly it entails? Would be great for someone to clear the air, there’s been a lot of heated discussion on various forums about the whole situation.
Ballmer: You'll Be Able To Get Blu-ray Drives As Accessories
October 22nd, 2009 at 5:46 PMI never realised! Here I was thinking the entire Microsoft corporation operated locally.
Ballmer: You'll Be Able To Get Blu-ray Drives As Accessories
October 22nd, 2009 at 4:31 PMNobody cares about the lowly Australians who are stuck internet plans that don’t allow for 1080p streaming.

Will Brütal Legend Be On This List?
October 22nd, 2009 at 2:08 PMApparently a lot of copies of Brutal Legend are being returned State-side due to its incredibly short length and the fact that a lot of people didn’t expect the RTS elements to be so explicity RTS-y. The prerelease demo didn’t even hint at it, making it seem more like Overlord than Sacrifice, and the end result isn’t even implemented particularly well. It’s as though Schafer was just in love with the concept of hybridising action-adventure with RTS without any notion of what makes an RTS “fun”. Just my 5c.
Bargain Hunter: One Demon, Many Souls
October 22nd, 2009 at 1:59 PMIt would probably end up cheaper to import a US copy than to buy from local stores, considering the strength of the Australian dollar. $60-70 inc. shipping as opposed to the typical $109.95? I think I can wait the couple of weeks for international shipping for savings like that.
So Apparently No One Cares About Valve's Conflict-of-Interest
October 21st, 2009 at 12:52 AMAgreed entirely. I think people blew the entire thing out of proportion. Randy is right, Valve DOES have a conflict of interest. The fact of the matter is that Valve games will always dominate the Steam marketplace, for instance a developer looking to release on the same day as a Team Fortress 2 or, God help them, a new game launch (but what are the odds of that? One in three hundred and sixty-five or some multiple thereof?) will be horribly overshadowed in terms of advertising and exposure. What appears in the Steam updates pop-up before anything else? Valve games. This isn’t any different to launching through the PSN or XBLA, though – pity any poor soul who would dare try and launch in the same week as ODST.
That being said, with flash banners to my left, right, above and below, I don’t think Borderlands has to worry about any lack of exposure
WIN! A Badass Borderlands Xbox 360 Prize Pack
October 20th, 2009 at 11:05 AM“The Molyneuator”
From Lyonhedd Industries, a seemingly powerful weapon that promises to eradicate all life in a seven mile radius, triple your XP gain, highlight all loot and double as a Space Whisky flask, but ultimately all it can manage to fire is a miniature flag that reads “bang!”
How Does Borderlands Balance Co-op Play?
October 19th, 2009 at 8:56 PMThey utilise various customisable colour schemes to differentiate players of the same class. Once upon a time I heard talk of some visual mods that let you tool out your character further, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
What's On Good Game TV Tonight?
October 19th, 2009 at 8:53 PMMust have outsourced the copy/paste talents behind Bethesda’s world design.
Pitchford: id Software Are "Dumb"
October 19th, 2009 at 8:51 PMI’d say id are dumb but for other reasons. Joining the Zenimax conglomerate for starters.
