Arcade Flyer Art Saturday: Punk Shot

punkshot.jpgPunk Shot was produced by Konami in 1990 and gave arcade goers a different perspective on the average sports game. Up to four players could choose between two teams, The Ramblers and The Slammers with each team consisting of two members. Basher and Stallion represented The Ramblers while the aptly named Hair and Spike comprised The Slammers. Four different playing fields were available including an alley, a docking pier, a vacant lot and a park.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Intro

Ah, where would we be without user uploaded movies. GameTrailers user Fly Guy has posted the opening cinematic for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII the upcoming pre-quel to Final Fantasy VII. The footage looks pretty nice and I have to say the guys are not quite as girly as they usually seem. This new game utilises the same urban grittiness that originally set Final Fantasy VII apart from other entries in the series. The game is set to release on Japanese PSPs September 3rd with the U.S. version expected sometime next year.

Madame Tussauds Officially Unveils Master Chief Figure

madtu.JPGIt seems we finally have the full story on the Master Chief wax figure that was revealed today in an event at Madame Tussauds in Las Vegas. The official post-unveiling press release states that the figure was introduced by Fall Out Boy's Pete "I'll kiss anybody" Wentz in a ceremony held this afternoon. Pete had a somewhat wooden, obviously PR department written speech for the occasion:

For me, the launch of Halo 3 will be the entertainment event of the year. It will be as big as or bigger than any of the summer's movie blockbusters," said Wentz. "Master Chief is as much of a hero today as characters like Spiderman, Frodo and Luke Skywalker were for previous generations.
Pete Wentz? Really? I'll just move past that bizarre choice in celebrity and move on to the additional announcement that Madame Tussauds will also be carrying a whole "array of Halo licensed products" that museum visitors can purchase. Somehow, I think that will surprise absolutely no one.

Unfortunately, the press release oddly did not include any photos of the finished piece so you'll have to make do with this old one. Full press release available for consumption after the jump.

Top Twenty Five Best Selling Video Games

Pokemon_red_box-1.jpgWebsite Gunslot, besides being a site where you can talk about and look at lots of pictures of guns, apparently has at least a passing interest in video games seeing as they have put together a list of the top twenty five best selling games of all time. Now we are not talking a game website popularity contest list here, but actual copies sold. Nintendo dominates the list with twelve titles, four of them being in the top five. Of the Nintendo games, Pokemon (no surprise there) and Mario titles figure heavily in the mix. Other titles on the list include all three GTA titles, The Sims 1 & 2, The Gran Turismo series, Warcraft and Halo 2. It would interesting to compare this list with a list of "best games" titles as I'm sure it would be quite different especially seeing as no Zelda titles even made it to the top twenty five.

Tanooki Suit Mario Tee On Threadless

mariotanuki.gifIt always disappoints me when I see a really great t-shirt on Threadless and then come to the realisation that it probably won't get made due to copyright issues. Such is the case with this awesome Tanooki Suit Mario t-shirt that arrived on Threadless a few days ago and is currently up for voting. Extra points for Mario eating out of a garbage can with his fellow tanuki brothers. Super extra points for not including the frighteningly oversized testicles that tanuki's are traditionally drawn with.

Vote for it here! [Threadless]

No Wireless Guitars For Rock Band 360 Retail Bundle

rockbandguitar.jpgYou read that right, the retail bundles for Rock Band on the 360 will include wired controllers, not wireless. Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos has confirmed this in the most recent OXM podcast but adds that included in the bundle will be a USB hub that will allow you to hook in all your various peripherals. Wireless guitars will be made available as separate purchases, but if you were hoping to go all wireless with your launch bundle, I'm afraid you are out of luck. This is really a shame and it will be interesting to see how this effects 360 vs. PS3 sales of the game seeing that I believe most people (myself included) will want to opt for the wireless package. Wired or wireless, how do you like to rock?

You must be a registered GameSpot forum member as well as having an Xbox Live Gold Account and be over the age of 17. The information on GameSpot is a little confusing as they say to come back on Monday when the Beta goes live but then don't actually say where you sign up. Then this paragraph appears below:

EA's Skate Delayed

EAskate_003.jpgFollowing in the footsteps of its demo, the launch of the full version of EA's SKATE for the 360 has been delayed by two days making the official date Friday, Sept. 14 instead of the former Wed. Sept 12. This news was posted yesterday to EA's Skate forums and over all, people don't seem to be terribly upset by the news. EA even posted a small apology to those who were anxiously awaiting the big day:

If you were planning on staying home sick on the 12th to name your first gap or if (like us) you bought a bunch of guacamole that expires on the 12th for your Skate party we send our sincerest apologies!

Heavenly Sword: Kai Gameplay

Wow, I didn't know you could play Heavenly Sword as diminutive Icelandic songstress, Bjork! Wait a minute, that's not Bjork, that's Kai, the crazy chick from the demo who talks to invisible things in her hands. Either way she's got a big ass gun for such a tiny little girl and she knows how to use it.

Post AGDC Slurpee Run

haloslurpees.jpgMy love for all things Slurpee is a well documented fact. I've loved them since I was a small child, and when they took the 7-Eleven stores out of Georgia a few years after my family moved there, I was crushed. Since then it has been my mission to get a Slurpee any time I was in a town where the stores still existed, so after a post GDC dinner with Ziff Davis's Darren Gladstone and Kotaku contributor N. Evan Van Zelfden, a trip to a 7-Eleven was required. When the store we found was fully stocked with Halo 3 cups and Game Fuel flavoured Slurpee goodness, I knew I had to document the occasion. There were three of us and three cups, so I bought, under the condition that I get to keep the souvenirs. My obsession with the Slurpee and my obsession with video games, together as one. *wipes away a tear* Thank you, Bungie. Thank you.
