Arcade Flyer Art Saturday: Kyros

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 11:00 AM on November 11, 2007

afaskyros.jpg It's not often that I pick a game that I am unable to find much information on, but something about the Kyros flyer really struck me. Searching around, I was able to find next to no information on the game, even on KLOV or Wikipedia which can usually fill in the gaps for me. After much searching and help from a friend, I discovered that the game was known by a couple of other names and eventually ported to several home computer systems under the name Desolator. So, going on that information, thus unfolds the tale of Kyros aka Kyros' Mansion aka Halls of Kairos aka Desolator.

Japanese Kid Icarus Commercial

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 10:00 AM on November 11, 2007

Here's a terrifically bizarre Japanese commercial for Kid Icarus circa 1986. Something that always strikes me about these 80's commercials, be they US or Japanese, is the absolute manic pace they seem to keep up. Everything is always amped up just a little too high. Of course, the kids (us) watching these things were usually just as amped up having just cracked out on giant bowls full of sugared cereal. It's a wonder we all didn't just explode.

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 9:00 AM on November 11, 2007

halo3soudtrack.jpg Game music is so often overlooked which is a shame because often without it, a game would be rather dull. From website Music4Games, a site devoted solely to the business of game music, comes the news that the official Halo 3 soundtrack website has launched. Appearing on the site is a slew of exclusive materials such as interviews with Halo 3 composer Marty O'Donnel, streaming music samples and footage of some of the recording sessions.

The 2 CD set will be available through online and brick and mortar retailers on Nov. 20. For all the skinny, head on over to Music4Games.net.

The Official Plush Companion Cube

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 8:00 AM on November 11, 2007

weightedcubestuffed.jpg It seems that the game world has gone Weighted Companion Cube crazy. Who knew a little grey box with pink hearts on it could cause such a sensation. Portal fans have made Companion Cubes out of everything from cake to ice to plush. Well fear not, you will no longer have to jab your fingers with needles trying to sew your own as Valve is coming out with their own plushie version of the beloved Cube. According to this image found on Steam, the cube will come in regular form for keeping you company at your office or home and "fuzzy dice" form for you car. Now you'll never have to be without your friend wherever you may be.

[Thanks, Tim]

golinhlogo.jpg GolinHarris, the award winning public relations firm that represents Nintendo and other fine establishments, is currently looking to hire some folks onto their Los Angeles and San Francisco teams. And the best part is it would be the new hires would get right to work on the Nintendo account! Now before you all go clamoring to try and get a job working with the big N, there are a few requirements. And I quote:

These aren't entry-level positions, you should have solid PR experience already, you should live in or around these cities and you should be awesome.
Please take note of all these, especially the last one. Non-awesome people need not apply. You can see a complete description of each job and it's requirements after the jump.

Confirmed: Hitman Movie To Be Rated "R"

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 6:00 AM on November 11, 2007

ratedr.jpgThe rumour mill has been rolling for sometime concerning the Hitman movie and its rating. tales circulated the internet that Fox was stepping in to PG-ify the film which, as we all know, would have been a bit ridiculous. The more rumours surfaced that this was not the case at all, but nothing was solidly confirmed until now. Our fearless leader took the time from his vacation and possibly a death threat from his wife to send us this missive he received from a Fox representative.

Please be advised that the feature film "HITMAN" has been given an "R" rating for, "Strong bloody violence, language, and some sexuality/nudity.

Well, that's a relief. I still don't have much hope for the film, but at least it won't be the eunuch version.

Playstation Heist In Belgium

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 5:00 AM on November 11, 2007

burglar.jpg Kotakuite Bargo sends in this little story from Belgium via De Standaard Online. Thankfully he translated because I couldn't read a word of the original source myself. Apparently, two thieves entered a warehouse with automatic weapons and tied up the warehouse manager. They then proceeded to load a truck with three hundred Playstations which must have been grueling as it is reported that it took them two hours to haul in their purloined booty. The estimated cost of the incident rolls in around 150,000 Euros. Ouch! No leads on the robbers or their whereabouts, but fortunately the warehouse manager was unharmed. Looks like the Belgian PS3 black market is about to get very full.

Asian Hellgate: London Servers To Get Wiped

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 4:00 AM on November 11, 2007

hellgatewipe.jpg The already rocky launch of Hellgate: London in Asia has gotten even rockier. After several weeks of server crashing issues, a patch known as Patch0 was created to help solve the problem. After numerous attempts to apply the patch to the servers it was discovered that the only way to make it work would be to perform a complete character wipe. Needless to say, Asian players of the game who have spent hours leveling up their characters are furious and in an attempt to appease them, IAH Games is offering players a months worth of free play time. Now at least they won't have to pay for all the time they will have to spend grinding back up to where they were before the wipe if they choose to continue playing.

You can read IAH Game's notice about the wipe after the jump

Mass Effect Street Date Broken Ten Days Early

Posted by Flynn De Marco at 2:00 AM on November 11, 2007

masseffect.jpg You know, this whole broken street date is starting to become old hat and normally I wouldn't give it too much thought. But, when the game in question is a title as big as Mass Effect, it bears some looking into. Emails have been coming in over the last four or five hours from happy gamers with attached photos of them delightedly clutching their prizes, their eyes bulging with excitement. Personally I wouldn't even take the time to snap the picture or send the email because I would be too busy playing, but I thank them for their enthusiasm in doing so so we could bring the news to the masses.

So, if you live near a K-Mart and can get there before the word spreads and Bioware makes them yank it of the shelf, you could be playing Mass Effect this afternoon. A check at my local K-Mart saw me leave empty handed, but who knows, you may get lucky.
