@DigitalHero: I also didn't factor in the revenue from the expansion packs. Burning Crusade is probably around 4 million copies (it sold 3 million in the first month). At $30 per unit and very conservatively rounding down, it's fair to say that Burning Crusade grossed Vivendi $100 million.

By the way, I'm fairly certain that overhead is less than $150 million a year. Warcraft is still a license to print money.

Even if overhead is 10% ($162 million), that's $1.5 billion a year in profit. Vivendi is far from desperate. It's making hay while the sun shines.
