It's hard to narrow down some awesome characters from FF6, but Terra and Celes are almost no-brainers really. And of course, Kefka.

It seems like Square's finally figured out a nifty way to translate Amano's work into 3D. They don't look like creepy plastic dolls anymore - they look awesome. Same for the CG work on FF4 DS.

Cloud of Darkness, Exdeath, Kefka, and Jecht were all featured in a big poster illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano (with the other villains, though nobody got a good look at the FFIV villain).

It's also worth noting that Nomura's following Amano's designs extremely closely with this one, and giving non-Amano designed characters an Amano flair with additional beads and similair Amanoisms.

@DigitalHero: Much better. You had two characters to swap between, and you could buy new armor and weapons. You could also build stats by certain foods you ate. The level designs were rather nice looking for the time, very smooth texture work and in high resolution.

Oh, there were plenty of times it was frustrating, especially when you were deep in the dungeon and you ran out of food and had to haul ass out of there. Then, with your most likely weak ass character, you had to save the other :( It was still a good game at the time, I realy enjoyed it. Closest thing gameplay-wise to Diablo on the PSX that you could get, other than the terrible, slow-down laden Diablo.

Well the whole theme was 1 villian, 1 hero from each story. Ultimecia isn't exactly not know of in FFVIII. Evil Edea = Ultimecia. Exdeath on the otherhand... could've went with Gilgamesh instead (although I'd place bets on him being a secret character).

@Odin: I completely agree. Ultemecia shouldn't even be in this game. She was nothing, completely insignificant to the story. They might as well include Necron instead of Kuja because he was the same exact situation. A final boss that really had nothing to do with the story.

I still think Terra fits the game though, being a popular female character with a transformation mechanic...it's notable that many of the characters unveiled so far also have transformation powers. Zidane, Kuja, Garland, the Warrior of Light (through his "class change" power), and even likely Sephiroth all have "alternate" forms that could be accessed during battle. Terra going into Esper Mode would be easy to accomplish.

@KeroseneClimax: You must be joking. It's absolutely nothing like Tekken or Soul Edge, and hit around the same time (if not earlier than) Soul Calibur did, from what I recall. Not to mention that Namco published the arcade version of it.

It has full 3D movement, which Tekken has never had, and it's a great deal different from SC's 8 way run. I think the reason people are so quick to diss it because it's NOT a clone of anything. Taken on its own merits, it's a pretty good game, even before they dumped all the bonus FF characters into the home version. The home version-exclusive quest mode, though, that's solid gold.

Ultimecia? Could we not have had Seifer or something? She was never really that interesting a villain, probably something to do with the fact she wasn't introduced til like disc 2 or 3 and then in name only. About the only time you actually see her when she's not mind controlling someone is at the very end. Pretty much anyone else from FF8 would have been a better choice in my opinion.

I'm not gonna follow the "2 from each series" motto.
Instead I think that the major "jobs" should all be represented.

My pick for 4 would be Kain (Dragoon is iconic).

Likewise they need to somehow get all 6 main jobs in there. Squall should fill the Warrior role, Zidane (as Thief from FF9), Sabin (mASH) as Monk (FF6), Emporer Palamecia as Black Mage (would have preferred Vivi but we need some villians), Firion should fill the Red Mage role (seeing as the flexibility of FF2s system would be ideal for it) and Rosa as White Mage.

Garland should be Dark Knight, Seph fills the Samurai role, Ultimecia should fill the summoner role. Warrior of light should fill in the Knight/Paladin role.

Tidus IMO is redundant (with Squall from FF1). Squall you can at least have a play gimmick and have him "draw" out. Instead Wakka should be there (for the long range / Archer / Ranger job). I'd rather replace Squall with Quistis (for blue mage goodness and have the Warrior do double duty as Warrior/Knight/Paladin role).

Finally we need a Ninja, I'd nominate Shadow (as opposed to Edge) for the role.

I wonder if Square-Enix will even bother putting anyone from FF5 in Dissidia? Faris Scherwiz has my vote.

In all honesty, the only games I see being skipped are 3 and 11, since neither game had "characters", just the jobs they filled, and we already have that quotient filled by the Warrior of Light from FF1. They said there would be at LEAST 10 playable heroes, and each hero will have a corresponding villain. If they skip 3 and 11, that leaves exactly enough room for every remaining game (not counting XIII or X-2) to get one hero and one rival.

Ergeihz (sp?) kinda sucked. Really, there were two valid choices to win matches: Tifa (broken in SO many ways), and console-only character Masuda/Matsuda (who has less broken moves but ends up being slightly better than Tifa). Everyone else is a joke.

@Archaotic: Sora isn't Square-Enix's to use; Sora is a Disney character (albeit created be Nomura). SE would have to get Disney's permission.

Despite being mega broken, (just keep doing those dumbass double kicks on the floor with Cloud or Sephiroth to win every fight on any difficulty) I actually enjoyed Ergheiz. That could be just because it was the first fighting game where you could move around in 3D. (without feeling stiff)

However, Urban Reign pwns the living crap out of all games of that type. :D

HA what I would love to see is how they will avoid to put all the cloned characters that appeared during Nomura's reign on FF series for example all the clones they produced: Tifa, Rinoa and Yuna, Or the "dorky cheer them up" clones: Zell-Wakka, how about the "anime fan wet dream" girl clones: Yuffie, Selphie, Rikku ??
